HELP! I need a quick FALL costume

That was good for a chuckle.

Oh that is great! I don't think I'd do it, well, "I" probably would, but I doubt I'd involve my kiddo. I like the leaves glued to a sweatsuit idea, and depending on your son's personality, he might like it a lot. If you used fresh enough leaves, they wouldn't even be too messy... sort of pliable.

If you have the time and patience, you 'could' cut the leaves from felt or fabric if you don't want to deal with real leaves. Perhaps your son would want to help. You could get brown pants, and a lighter top, and just glue the leaves to the shirt, that would cut down on the number of leaves. Glue a fake bird to his shoulder, and/or a birdsnest?

he will probably end up in camo with a stuffed squirel. Id love him to be hunting something, just to throw a monkey wrench into their nice peaceful fall festival

But you can get when Christmas time comes around there will be a Christmas concert not a Snow Festival.

*sigh* he'll have fun either way I hope, it does suck though.

Doesn't it just make you want to set up a zombie graveyard in the front yard though? Halloween used to be such creepy fun! I'll never forget the year we had a party and us kids went out to the graveyard at midnight. We just walked around scaring ourselves half to death. Now we'd either be arrested or in danger of getting murdered by real freaks, or our parents would be arrested because we really were too young to be out there alone. MAN we were scared though! It was GREAT!!! (( FYI, we lived in a very small very safe town, esp back then. ))

cover him in grass, nut husks, fake berries etc and send him in with a scythe as the spirit of the harvest

or

dress him as the Winter King - give them a real pagan experience

or dress him in brown with antlers and wind a (toy) snake around his arm - he can be Cernunnos, the horned god

i hate when they do that crap. when my oldest was in kindergarten they wanted the costumes to be fall themed..but only after my MIL was kind enough to make her a fairy costume. ugh. how mad was i? after that... i saw the parades they had.. and i decided id never buy a second costume again. there was still pirates and ghosts and zombies and such.. so i figured my kids will be what they are going to be.. after the second year of that.. they never sent home a note saying it can't be anything *halloween* related.. ya know scary stuff lol.

Sue

ps mine are gonna be a zombie, a vampire and an owl.

how exactly did this get so political? In my experience it many Halloween objections are raised on religious grounds. I think the short notice is the worst thing about the OPs post, the whole 'autumn' thing is bothersom but she asked for help and ideas. I fell into some of the attitude too I'll admit but really....

I would also suggest calling other parents - they are in the same frustrated boat and might give up and just let their kids wear their original costume.
