help - i need the simplest coop idea possible

Are the holes on the side covered in hardware cloth? If not you will need to cover them. Also if there is not hardware to latch the doors shut you will need to add that as well. Even with possibly having to predator proof it a little it is pretty good for 2 chickens. I dont know where you live, here in Georgia I would have to have more hardware cloth windows to provide more ventalation than what that coop has, as it is so hot here. I will say it is not difficult to build a little box like that. Even with limited building experience you can do it!

Thank you! I swear I thought I was the only one, yes the pallets were free, but the hardware and 'making it work' just did not live up to my expectations.
I have to do a rebuild anyway, a lovely sink hole has appeared and my coop is being held up by a truck jack. (can we say Redneck?)
I would go for that, it looks perfect for two, just make sure no little paws can reach in.

Yep that would definitely work! I would put something like that inside of a dog kennel. Chances are if you look hard enough you could find one of those for free or really cheap. Although it seems like a good lookin' teacher like you could surely recruit some free skilled labor! Don't procrastinate too long, fuzzy butts grow up quick! 4 - 6 weeks and I put them outside, otherwise it's just too much dust for me to have them inside.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I borrowed a truck from a girl at work and drove 45 min to pick up that $45 craigslist coop. I am excited to paint it and come up with some cute shingles. I absoluely love it and its way bigger than it looks. Its 3.5 ft x 3ft x 2.75ft. My two girls are going to be more than cozy in there! I'm really happy I made the purchase and now I can concentrate on more fun artsy design rather than the stress of having to figure out how to build it.

Perfect. That's about 9 sq.ft. of indoor space. Chicken math is 4 sq, ft. inside per bird for large fowl. 10 sq. ft. outside per bird for large fowl. For bantam fowl, 1/2 those numbers.

I did, too. Everyone makes it sound so much cheaper. Maybe there's something I'm just not getting but mine is a pain in my arse right now and looking at all of the threads of coop making, they seemed to have it much easier (and they look nicer in the end than I believe mine will, sadly) for what appears to be about the same price. And less stress. LOL! Sink holes scare the eff out of me! Holy crap! So sorry about that! Redneck is better than no coop, eh? ; )
