Help identify our mystery chick

They come in all different colors and patterns! No two rainbows are exactly alike. We didn't know what ours were when we first got them at TSC, either. We thought maybe welsummers and kept going back and forth on it. Rainbows are a dual purpose breed. Our ladies are so sweet, we would never eat them! They lay wonderful little eggs. They are SO big and heavy though!!!! They are the heaviest chickens we have! They are very pretty though. Dixie Rainbow is the breed. You can see more about the breed here and here. I would bet money that's what your mystery chick is!

You can see the thread where I was trying to identify ours here.

If you want I will get some pics of our girls tomorrow so that you can see their full patterning and coloring. They are grown up now!

Hope this helps :D

Wow very interesting, I will have to wait & see! Rainbows being large is throwing me off tho cuz she is the smallest of them for her age. The last addition we got, Peanut, who is a buff Orpington & was just slightly behind them all in age is almost bigger than Cocoa now lol. I’m almost leaning towards Welsummer now cuz her markings were so distinct when she was small. The anticipation is killing me now lol, I love this site ❤️

This site is pretty awesome :D

The pics I posted above were kinda when the chicks were going into their awkward stage, if you know what I mean... when they were smaller they had perfect chipmunk stripes and eyeliner. But we had one that didn't have a chipmunk stripe at all! The shape of her head, her stance, how big her legs are....... I'm defo banking on her being a rainbow! We've had four of them now, three currently. We got three last year, one of them had a leg slipped out of joint and unfortunately passed away a few months back. She was a big sweetheart. The other two from that group are huge sweethearts as well, and we have one that's a couple weeks old in the brooder. Ironically enough, the one that we just got the lady at the store gave to us for free because her leg was crippled up. She had curly toe from hatching out of the egg, I splinted her foot with a bandaid for a few days, and now she's all good!!! We didn't think she was a rainbow either, we thought a speckled Sussex or welsummer, but she's definitely a rainbow too now that she's feathering out.

You'll have to keep us updated! Ah, I know it. The anticipation at identifying baby chicks!

I think maybe an Ameracauna or mix, all of mine looked like chipmunks when they were little and Most are laying blue eggs and three lay green.

Welummer we picked up two this year. Welsummer we have one of each. I remember reading lots of article about these guys. All of them are cute when little. Wellies if I remember the lighter color of the chick is a male and that is what I saw when we got ours.

Soon you will know what you received. If you need a picture when the wellies were little let me know. Mine are also on a thread here somewhere.
