Help! I've been adopted by a rouge seabird (male/female?)

Now Zazouse when I was driving my truck I brought you that snow from Iowa twice. Didn't you appreciate it? Ha, Ha.
Well thank you, i wonder where it came from, it was christmas eve when it snowed the first time in years and i don't remember what time it was the second time but it was very pretty while it lasted.

v Perhaps I've finally found a way to post- these photos, poor quality to begin with, of Frankie. I'll try to get better photos today with a camera instead of my phone. Any idea if Frankie is male or female? Thank you, Martha

Hi MarthaC,
I'm not sure how you're trying to post pictures but it should be pretty easy.
When you're writing your "Reply," you will see a row of different formatting and icons across the top.
Over to the right, there is a group that starts with a little picture of a house.
If you click on that, it should guide you through the process of inserting a photo from your computer.

I hope that helps!
We're anxious to see a picture of your new friend!

**edited to add: I have certainly seen other peapeople have a lot of trouble with photos here, so it isn't just you! I think it depends on what kind of device you take the pictures with?

Martha C,
I easily uploaded pictures then one day wouldn't work. I went to I think Information. Then thread New BYC Features and Updates. They installed a better program but ran into some bugs. I think it was tread #53 that explained about flash update. I clicked the blue parts followed the instructions to update my flash (simply have no idea what it is), but it worked and uploading pictures is quite simple again. If you want to do multiple you just hold Ctrl button down. People just have to click picture to make it larger now. Might give that a try.

Thanks loads, will try. 1st want to take photos with my camera (instead of phone). Sure to be better quality.

Finally, a photo of Frankie, sorry it took so long to figure the photo process. My question is - can you tell from this photo if Frankie is male or female? He is surely a spoiled bird in the week that he has appeared on our doorstep. Thank you for your help. Martha

Frankie's a pretty girl!

She looks like an India Blue to me (like our girls here) but if you can post pictures of her from the side and back it may be more revealing.

This picture of girls and guys together should show you how to tell the difference (the guys are blue):

This is the side view of Frankie. Thank you for letting me know she is a female. Wonder why she would wander away from her previous home? It is obvious she is not fearful of people as she lets me get within 3 ft of her. I see that your birds have a building. We don't have such and had not planned to make one. Should we, it will get below zero and will snow here (near Cincinnati, OH). It appears your house is off the ground. Due to coyotes etc this is surely necessary.

She's pretty!
She still looks like an India Blue to me but I'm not an expert by any means.
Our gang here is completely free ranging, that picture just shows them sitting on our back porch railing.
We have lots of coyotes here, and have never had a problem, but there are plenty of trees if the peas feel the need to get off the ground.

Don't know why she would have left her former home, maybe her owners abandoned her?
Have you checked to make sure nobody's missing a peahen?
(Maybe you already answered this question, sorry).

I've asked neighbors, but then we are pretty spread out. No one in close proximity knows of any peafowl nearby. Will she be happy by herself? She is so taken with her reflection and stay next to this French door panel except when she is roosted - our yard is too full of large trees - so she has many too choose from. The branch she chooses to perch on is only about 1" diameter. Will that work for her to keep her feet warm in the winter? Sorry to be a bother with so many questions. When I'm bringing a new pet into the family I do my research ahead of time. This time the pet chose me so I had no time for homework! Thank you again for all your info. What do you feed yours?
Martha
