Help, maggots!!

I couldn't believe how fast this thing filled up!
The pics were taken after just a couple days of it hanging.

Wow that is both fascinating and horrifying. I finally got traps today and hope to get some similar results. Seems like we're all having a lot heavier fly activity this year.

And it attracts more than just flies. I've seen bees in it, and tonight I saw the belly of something crawly and long, with a bunch of legs!!

Wow. I’ve never seen a bee in mine, but oooooh when the flies that haven’t died yet on the top of the pile but can’t get out lay eggs and THOSE maggots hatch it’s SO COOL!

I've seen bees and wasps in mine. Along with maggots from the flies themselves.
Reminds me I should put some out. The flies were getting bad.

Fly strike can also happen when a bird has poop built up on their butt feathers.
Flies will lay eggs in that poop then when the maggots hatch they can create a wound as they feed.


The spilled water mixed with the poop particles in the sand makes for a prefect wet dark incubator for flies. Might try putting dunk bucket up on a screen of some sort.
