I have always had a preference for the "runts". Seems like they smart and tough, had to be to
survive. And if the other pup is bigger and more active, pup 2 might just need his own
"garden to grow in".No matter what you decide, congratulations!!

I would choose pup #2... Why??

He is smaller so maybe not take up as much space. Not as active, might be more steady for learning what you need him to do in a special needs house. He just might be able to be trained for assistance work if needed.

I have trained dogs for over 30 odd years.(Police workdogs, Search and Rescue K-9, mantrailers, obedience, therapy, and a little bit of assistance dog training for a friend, plus gun dogs for hunting ,along with at one time being a breeder, owner, handler of show/ obedience/working dogs. I am always drawn to the underdog for my personal dogs. I like that his markings are NOT perfect, pretty is as pretty does in my book. Also he won't look (just like all the others). :)

They are both lovely and you can't make a mistake with either one of them.

I prefer pup 2: slightly better feet and a shorter back. However, for something as important as a lifelong companion, I would make the drive to sit with both pups in their own garden and spend enough time to learn their different personalities. You hope to have this new dog for 16 years, so invest some time in picking the right one for you.

Honestly it would be really lovely to be able to go see the pups with their mum in their own environment. Sadly that is not going to be possible. They are the other end of the country just about as far away from us as is possible to get. They are right down the far end of Southern Ireland and we are right up the north. With two disabled kids and a sick hubby there is NO WAY I could do that trip. It would be about 3 days drive! I am going to see the owner and pups and mum in a few days time as they are up in Dublin for a show. However that is a good full days trip. Best we can manage. You have to understand getting these pups is veryhard these days as they are a rare breed. Getting pups that are Kennel club registered from a recomended breeder even harder. So we will just have to see them when we get the chance. I am looking foward to pup but was worried about not being able to give him all he needs. I am still missing Murph like crazy and no other Dog could take his place. My murph was wonderful and I never once regreted getting him or Molly or pollyanna - all three of the OES dogs weve had were lovely but Murph was my mate, a real charactor. I miss him so much especially this time of year when I see all the nice doggie things for Christmas and I keep thinking Murph would like that or this things but of course he isn;t here anymore.

You know the breed and know what you like in the breed OES, so I think the odds are high that you will bring home a wonderful companion. Best of luck with the new pup!

The big thing is the youngest OES I ever got was 18 months old. Murph was still very much a puppy when we got him. But the folk like a lot of people didn;t take on board that they grow massive and do not stay a little fluff ball. I am worried about having the "little fluff ball"! I am used to a woolly mammoth!
