So my HOA does not allow us to have chickens and I believe that it is unfair that they don't. I just wanted to see if anyone has any idea of what to say to them to convince them to let us have chickens. I have hatched chickens once before but this time I would like to keep them but there are many problems that may occur if I do so... :l

You should move this thread to the Chicken Laws and Ordinances forum. You'll get better help there :frow Welcome to BYC and good luck with your HOA!

Hi there, welcome to BYC! :frow

HOA's exist for a reason. The folks that move in agree to the rules beforehand. The best way to get past HOA rules is don't live there. If your parents currently rent, maybe they can consider another location??

Do you have a copy of your HOA guidelines so we can see how it's worded and if there is any leeway for interpretation? Sometimes there are "exceptions" like short term for 4H and such.

Are you at all interested in trying something else... like coturnix quail?

Adding your general location to your profile can help folks make their best suggestions at a glance. ;)

Have some ideas before approaching the HOA... review others that have rules written in to allow them and see what they addressed... my guess is noise, smell, flies, coop distance from property line, and rodents attracted to poultry feed is a HUGE one. Come up with a plan (or research others) to address these concerns.

Glad you were bitten by the chicken bug... it's changed my life and perspective... and IS a worthy pursuit!

Best wishes on your adventures! :fl
