Hi all- worried my sexed speckled Sussex might actually be a cockrel. What do y'all think? It's comb isn't particularly big and not red yet, but the hackle and tail feathers have me concerned. It also holds itself and walks more straight up than my other pullets and hens. Am I just being paranoid?? It is 19 weeks old. Thanks all!

I don't really see any hackle feathers, they look rounded like a pullet to me. Though that stance...maybe she's butch!:gig I'd guess pullet, but because of my lack of familiarity with the breed, I'd say my confidence ratio is 70%!

Though it's true there are tendencies... Every single bird is an individual... and some of my Silkie girls stand up nice and tall pretty often. They can be little fire crackers. :p

But feathers, comb, waddles... don't lie!

Some hens can even grow spurs and crow. :hmm
But a rooster can't lay an egg!

Speckled Sussex are some of the prettiest chickens. :love
