Hi guys. I need some advice please. A friend had gave me bird eggs they found earlier. We don’t know how far along they are. I did the float test on both of them. One of them sinks. However, when I did the candle light method on it, I saw veins. It appears to still have a yoke inside so maybe it’s still developing. Here is the picture of it and the vein. I even have a video of it moving inside on a still table. But why did It sink?

Do you guys think it’s fertile?

The second egg floats at an angle. When I did the candlelight method on it, I couldn’t really see any veins. Here is a photo of that one:

I don’t know if it’s alive or not. There is no veins, however when I did the floating method. It Began to float only on a certain angle. The pointy parts was in the water in the bottom part was out of the water. I don’t know if it’s alive. Please help me on both of these!

And yes, I bought an egg incubator. I’m also trying to maintain the humidity, but I need a Hydro meter and it should be coming in the mail soon. This is my first time caring for eggs so I’m not really familiar with this. I would appreciate if someone responded and helped me out.

Float test just tells you how old an egg is, both look fertile, the first isn't as far along as the second, the second looks like it could hatch soon if it didn't get shocked by the water. Where'd your friend find these eggs? That will help set the incubator.

I haven’t seen the second egg move though! I dried it throughly after putting it in the lukewarm water. :( I feel awful about doing that now because I had no idea! My friend said he found them scattered apart on the dirt of his plant. He said there was no nest on the floor or on the plant and it was raining. He took them inside and gave them to me because he couldn’t take care of them.

I know you said the second egg looks fertile, but do you notice the lighter part on the right of the egg? Is that an air space or something?

Ok, don't worry, I don't think float testing them did any harm more than them being out in the rain. It's good you used warm water.
they are probably killdeer eggs, you can use the same method as incubating chicken eggs. Eggs don't move a lot, just when the chick is getting into position to hatch so put them in the bator and wait, time will tell. Nothing you did should negatively affect them, but being in the rain didn't help.
Yes, That's the air cell, the chick will poke a hole into that and breath there first before hatching.

Thank you so much for responding!! They do look pretty similar wow! I have the incubator at 40 Celsius because that’s the right temperature for bird eggs from what I read on google. Do you think that’s proper? I really want the best for these two, but the nearest wild life rehabilitation center is more than 2 hours away and I just don’t have the gas money.

Once again, I really appreciate you so much!! Also I try to flip them about 5 times a day. But I just have a question, is it normal for eggs to develop faster than others?

I'd bump it down to 38 Celsius, the eggs could be from two different nests to explain the difference in development. Don't turn the ones thats moving so it can figure out which end to hatch with, if you can angle the air cell end up just a bit to help the chick figure it out.
Good news about killdeer is that they hatch ready to go like chickens, you don't need to feed them like robins.

Thank you for letting me know! I will lower the temperature to 38 and won’t move it anymore, I’ll just put it to the side. Thank you :)
