* HELP - mean wild rooster wont leave my yard!!

Its the hens fault. Their fluffy cuteness is like nectar to him.

Yep, the wild bird had discovered free vittles and GIRLS!
In his mind he must conquer the human keeper to get the prize!

Unfortunately, you have shown the wee warrior a weakness by running from him. Now you must out chicken him or make chewy meal from him.

He went in the trap once, why don't you try trapping him again? Then you can either eat him, or get rid of him some other legal way? You don't want a mean rooster around - especially since you have a small child.

I agree. I'm a 200 pound ma with a black belt. I've yet to meet a chicken that scared me. I eat a lot of chickens.

Now there's a great idea! BigIslandChicks should go out there and explain to that nasty rooster that she eats his kind for breakfast!

The island is my most favorite place to visit on planet earth. Last time I was vacationing there I saw lots and lots of both Old English Game Roosters and American Game Roosters (Pea Combed). I wanted to trap some so badly and ship them back to California, but didn't know if you were allowed to?

Is the Rooster Red (Orange Red) and Black Breasted?

If you go out with the attitude that you will catch him, he'll run. They can tell by your body language whether you're afraid or whether you mean to eat them. I've gone out on days and chased my chickens just to pet them and they don't really run too much, but the one day I was chasing a roo to process him, he was doing the predator call. He could tell my intention! Let him know you mean it.

you trapped him so now he thinks he belongs there

think the only way to end his torment is to trap him again and make dinner from him. wish we would get uninvited chicken guests they would be dinner

I can understand your concern but I've never had a mean rooster. Yet! However I like the advice by Minnie Rose Luvgreen in her book , "Recipe for Raising Chickens".. "I had one too that pecked at my legs, so I swatted him with a piece of board. He watches out for me now". - Quote.

I would either "rehome" him if you can or try Minnies recipe. Also if wild roosters are a problem on the island I would keep hens of more docile breeds such as Cochins, Orpingtons, or Delaware, crossing these into the local population and eventually you'll get wild birds that are not so aggressive.

Lord have mercy, right now I have 2 Dels, 1 Amer. , 6 orpingtons roosters and they all get along fine. I do have a BR but he is in a separate yard.

Chickens are not as stupid as we think and can be trained. I say get a board of a specific color and use that to give him a good swat when he comes charging. He'll get the idea.

I wish you the best,

Rancher
