HELP MY baby DUCKING IS WALKING ODDLY :(

Thanks so much now this is what has taken place today.....there are really no shops open today being Sunday and I live rurally so that doesn't always help the shopping factor either:

well I am mentally drained today...I found a couple of very small 5grm packs of Brewers Yeast, but will have to wait until tomorrow now when all the shops are open, I went to the pharmacy, they do not stock liquid Niacin, infact I did find 2 products, one in tablet form and I can crush, but I will have to work out the ratio as they are Vit B3 500 mgs. So I bought out of desperation, then I also purchased Penta-Vite, it is for baby's 0-3 months old, it has 7 mg niacin per dropper full but also has VitA, Vit B1, Riboflavin, The niacin, Vit B6 , Vit D3 and Vit C, also contains artificial sweetener, pineapple flavouring, has no artificial colours or preservatives and no added sugar, is this safe to use??? as it is dropper and I can put straight into mouth of baby ducklings, I read somewhere on Metzer farms as long as they get about 10mg of the Niacin per dropper full, this will be about 7mg the one I could find, but I am not sure about the artificial sweetener and other stuff init? I am so confused, and with the Brewers yeast can I do both at one time, The Niacin liquid if safe to use and yeast, the two I could get for now....

Thanks for your help much appreciated as always

Wow I just don't know about the artificial sweetener. The B3 500 mg you could crush and put into a pint of water (half a liter). Each cup (quarter of a liter) would have 250 mg in it. Each half cup (8th of a liter) would have 125, the right amount of B3/niacin for a gallon.

Does that help?

And the brewer's yeast should be fine, too. Maybe a tablespoon on the food once a day.

Thanks a million, I am the same with the artificial sweetener, I am shocked it is in the newborn mixture! I wouldn't use it on my baby, but I got it just out of desperation with a cloud over my head....Im using the Tab and yeast...off I am to help this poor darling first born of mine and it is so so so hot we are on extreme alert with fires etc,

My heart is so warm for the effort you are making for your ducks. I. So glad you were able to find this information now before you have many other clutches of babies to care for.
I'm so proud of you for this and I hope you can feel the love and support here from your ducky friends on the other side of the pond.

Has there been any improvement with the brewer's yeast added to the food? If it were me, I would just give her one dropper full of the baby liquid just to get it into her system faster, just once shouldn't have enough artificial sweeteners to cause any problems. (You do not have to follow this advice if you don't agree with me, it won't hurt my feelings.)
I could be mistaken, but I believe it's very difficult to give too much niacin and the excess is just flushed out of the system.

Have you added any sugar or molasses or other types of electrolytes to the water? What about Apple cider vinegar? That helps with flushing bacteria as well as providing some trace nutrients.
Also, don't feed bread, it's no good for the ducklings and can cause nutritional issues.
Are you offering them grit with their fresh foods?

Hi yes I have added apple cidar Vinegar, I have started the Niacin in tablet form crushed and put in water as per amounts required. How much grit should I provide them with, Just a bowl at their leisure? I am about to upload a video of the ducklings walk, it is really dry here in Australia and we are on high fire alert today with fires burning all around, the heat is unbelievable.....I have also placed some brewers yeast in the food...I don't give them much bread just some crumbs as a treat, they have their food, they eat lettuce, they have peas and love watermelon and there is plently of grass around for them to forage through, just in the video it will look dry, but its not that bad......Let me know if you get the video and what you think :) Thanks so much for all your help AND SUPPORT....I will post the video after I send this, I am not sure how to do it .

I raised my ducklings on chick feed (non-medicated) for nearly 4 weeks. Different people told me different things, but the general concensus was around 3 weeks to change them over to a pullet feed. I don't think a week extra would do any damage, certainly both my pekins are perfectly healthy, active and growing at an astonishing rate!

So whilst I'm only new to ducks myself and I can't offer any real qualified advice, at least stop blaming yourself. I doubt very much feeding them chick feed for the first 4 weeks would have led to this problem. I hope someone here can find an answer for you and your duckling overcomes her walking problem.

There is an icon at the top of the reply box. It is the fourth one to the left of the smiley face icon. It enables you to enter a link to a video that you have uploaded to either Youtube or Vimeo.

So first you need to upload to one of those sites, then you can enter the link to here.
