My Gold Laced Wyandotte, Ginger, is about 5 weeks old. Ive just started giving her and her 2 sisters treats (grapes, apples, bananas, oats) in the last couple of days and tonight, after I had just finished cleaning the brooder (just an old lizard tank that Ive used as a brooder in the past), I picked her up and noticed a large, almost golfball-sized lump in her breast area that was definitely more on the right side than the left. It was soft to the touch and I couldnt seem to find any pustules on it when I inspected. She didnt flinch as I felt it and she is acting like she always acts. Could this be her crop and is it too early to give my chicks grit? Theyre still on starter feed.

That's her crop... and you should always offer grit when feeding any treats (anything other than chick starter)...

Oh, thank you so much! This is my first year with chickens so Im still learning. Something new has popped up with each little group of chicks Ive raised so far.
