I am sorry but I could not tell much from that pic...the advice remains the same though as it is basic care for shock and cleansing of wounds...

unicorn : on page one there is a link with a better pic on the bottom post.
the last one. Can you get in a look?

its better than the one on this page.

update:
he's still alive but very very weak.
He's not standing anymore and having a hard time breathing.
still have the light on him and just put fresh dry towels on him .
I used a dropper to give him some water. He took maybe a few drops. but nothing after that.

How much water should he be taking in? can someone tell me ? How often should I give him water?

THANKS TO ALL WHO ARE TRYING TO HELP!!!

REALLY, YOU DONT KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS TO ME AND JJ. HE THANKS YOU TOO.

SYLVIA

OH should I clean his wounds again or just one time? or should I just leave him alone?

thanks

* Think your roo probably oughta have some antibiotics, too. As for wound cleaning, 2-3 times a day, generally-- but, you've gotta keep on top of any pus and redness more often in the beginning, or any time it pops up. Also, clean up any poo & keep his bedding & his FEET & NAILS clean. Healing wounds itch, and can be reinfected as he try to stratch em.

I am so sorry about your Roo.

Being an EMT, the first thing I'd think of is that the trauma to the neck is causing the airway to close up. I don't know what you could do to stop that - if he was a person, he'd be intubated to protect his airway.

Are there any NSAID type drugs for chickens?

It's almost like you need to ice that neck to stop the swelling, but if he's in shock, he needs his body warmed. Cooling the juglar *will* make him colder. But if he were mine, I'd give serious consideration to icing the neck - esp. if his breathing keeps getting worse.

Hugs for (((mybellanchico)))

I'm praying hard for your roo.

Friends, do you think this poor roo should have some pain killer?

The difficulty breathing is really worrying me. I don't know if it's pain or if the dog damaged him well beyond surficially. Shock - you're already tending to with warmth, dark, and quiet. And your comforting words.

JJ

I had a dog attack one of my pigeons and I called a vet and he just prescribed a liguid antibiotic used for treating animals eyes to drip over the wound--he said he used it a lot for wild life rehabilitation cases---

A thought I had also was that with that large a wound the dehydration could be a real problem..Would you be able to put gauze on the neck and keep it moist somehow?

I fell like a fool for crying over him but he was so beautiful and such a good friend.
I'm upset he's been hurt so badly by my dog........ who by the way means the world to me 2. So I have that to deal with.

I'm looking for a picture of my little JJ so you all can see how beautiful he was.

UPDATE :

He now has some slimy stuff coming out of his mouth. ??? dont know what it is. I just tried to give him some water he took a little. I gave him new bedding and more peroxide on the wound. Just dripped some on.

uggg dont know what to do. Its going to be a sleepless night.

thank you all for your kind words.

it really helps because my heart is broken thinking of the pain he must be in.
