Help! My Rooster tried to attack me!

I'm finally going out to see Mr. Red! With a switch in hand!
Letting your husband do it won't make any difference for you, it's you he doesn't respect. You have to be the person to show dominance over the bird that's attacking you.
I know, and I am the one that bought them. I am taking full responsibility! I'm going to see Mr. Red now!

Jack my Barr Rock rooster is big and attacks frequently... I have wacked him upside the head several times with a bamboo stick .... I have kicked at him when he has attacked..the only thing that makes him mind is when I have a big leaf rake rake and I purposely push him away...other wise if I don't have something in my hand he will attack... I can see he is gonna be the dogs dinner

I guess I'll ask since I didn't see an answer to this: Is there a reason you have the rooster? Are you planning to breed? That's really the only reason you MUST have one. If you don't need him for breeding (and with his aggression that might not be a good idea) then is there a reason you feel you must keep him?

If you still are afraid of him (and yes they can really do some damage, so tell your husband it's not a laughing matter - I've seen someone post a photo of a black eye, and another of their arm or leg sliced open in 3 long cuts) then I don't think you should keep him, especially since it's your first flock. Animals know when you're afraid of them.

I posted in chicken behavior, and got no replies. Please, I need some advise. I have no experience with chickens. I bought three grown hens and a huge rooster at the auction about a month ago.
Yesterday Mr. Red wouldn't let me back in the pen to get my cleaning supplies! Thank goodness I had already fed and changed the water. Can somebody just tell me if a rooster can hurt me? I have to go back out there! Now, please?
Yes..they can hurt you. U have to show him who's boss! In occasion..i have roo get to boss me. 1st thing I do is chase them out of the coop and claim it..then I just walk into them and MAKE them move out of my way. I have on occasion grabbed them by the feathers around thier neck..ranked them around a bit...and held on for minute and gave them a goid mean stare down at the same time . If u plan on keeping him...u must assert yourself and not tolerate any aggression. It will take a few lessons..mayb even an occasional reminder ..but you must not let him bully you. If u are frightened of him..get rid if him. When i am cleaning or collecting eggs..i claim his space..he is not allowed in the coop when I'm in it either.

Oh man, how long have you had him? I can't do this for long! I took a big switch and my dog training clicker/whistle with me this afternoon! I just can't believe how stubborn and mean roosters are. The minute he heard me getting the food he started crowing, so I started clicking. We went back and forth like that till I had their food ready. Then I set the food down outside the door and opened it. He was over in the corner on the other side about 12' away so I got the food and shut the door. Here he came as hard and fast as he could! Scared the piss out of me! Luckily I had time to set the food down because I had to hit him! I know I did'nt hurt him, I just caught him off guard the way he did me yesterday. As soon as he got his mind wrapped around what just happened he came back! I couldn't believe it. I had to hit him several times and blow my whistle. But that did it. I think the whistle saved my butt! He didn't mind me hitting and swatting at him. Man, I don't know what I will do if this happens every
day. I'm sure he is probably thinking the same thing, we went at it for a long time! But I was determined to show him I'm the momma! He has to be have.
I was still in there when my husband came in from work, and I had not got to the feed dish yet! I walked out of the barn with that switch in my hand and told him he had to feed the chickens. Didn't say anything else. Just kept on walking to the house.
A few minutes later he comes in and ask what was the matter? I said, did you feed the chickens? He said yes, what's wrong? Are you mad at me? Nooo, I'm not mad at you. I'm mad at Mr. Red! He says, I think you just don't like him and he knows it. I'm thinkin w t f ?!
