Help: Peachick with swollen face! ?

Awww finally sitting! Looong day! Left at 7am icy roads caused a 45 mile trip take over 3 hours!

So..update. She looks a lot better! I had a nice long discussion and in the end she agreed to send home baytril. She didn't have the antibiotic specific to treating Mycoplasma but I wanted to leave having her on something so baytril it is.
Drop of Ofloxacin Ophthalmic solution in the right nostril and right eye twice a day, 1 ml of Baytril 2x's a day.

So glad you are home safe!. Did she end up doing the mycoplasma test, or did she diagnose based on symptoms?

What antibiotic was she going to use if not Baytril... did she say? (I've just been reading about Denaguard -- tianulin -- was that it?)

And the best news, that your pea is better! Hurray

Nictitating membrane or the 3rd eyelid is what is protruding from her eye and the vet said they don't cut that, they made the incision in the top eyelid to drain/clean. So glad I didn't attempt lancing that thinking it was just a puss pocket of sorts. I'll take pics tomorrow. She came home wandered a bit in the dining room, ate, drank then raided some cat food from the kitty bowl. She's now sleeping in a crate in there. I'm just going to keep her in the house until the time is right. I don't have it with me at the moment but I'm pretty sure her info said she weighed 1.2 lbs. I'm going to go look and see if that's normal for a 5 month old pea.

I had not named the babes yet but hated not having a name when filling out the paperwork. .so I named her Elly! Lol. Of course I still don't know for certain if it's a he or she but..ya know. .

I didn't opt to have the test done at this time. Everything I read about Mycoplasma says it's a bacteria that if they have it there's no cure and the other birds more than likely would already have it. So..I will do some saving and research while she's healing and will look into having a few of my birds tested including her since the vet seemed to think she may not test well since being on an antibiotic. Not sure about that? ? She treated as if Elly was suffering from an infection. Whether it be from a injury or sinus. Baytril covers a wide range of bacterium. I cannot remember what antibiotic she mentioned for the Mycoplasma but it wasn't one I had heard of or read when doing my own research. She did mention Tylan and we discussed its harm to tissue etc when injected. I will see if I can find the meds ref for the Mycoplasma she mentioned. If not I will just call them.

Perfect! And Baytril will also treat mycoplasma.

I'd be willing to bet that that 1.2 is kg (1200 grams), which would be 2.64 pounds. 1.2 pounds would be a a very small for a five month old pea. 1.2 pounds in grams is 545 grams, which is what some of mine weighed at six weeks. Double check, bet you it's 1.2 kg.

I haven't heard anything about the fecal float,

If they had to send it out I would certainly look for a more competent vet, one capable of performing minor tests. I think that most of us gasped when you started quoting fees, you might want to look at some of the countryside farm vets. Who knows, you might luck out and find the one that works the county fair birds like I did. The semi insult sounded like trying to drum up some overpriced business for the vet. One ml for a one-pound bird is quite a bit more than generally prescribed, but I assume that they wanted to hit the infection hard and not have you give a bunch of shots. You should see results very quickly now.

Unfortunately that's in line with what I get charged by the only vet in the area that will treat peas. She's nice, but super expensive and doesn't seem to want or know how to fix anything the times I've taken birds to her. My real vet died on me and his son refuses to treat peas.
