HELP PLEASE...Chick born with growth on back of head! Pictures included!

That is odd..... I have never seen anything like it. I am glad it was just water though. it was just on top of the skin like a boil or something? I can't see clearly in the pics you posted but I am guessing there was no damage to the skull? if not the chick should be alright once it is all healed up. keep us updated please. I would like to know how this little chick progresses.

Welcome to BYC! I was looking at the picture of the chick. I wonder if the growth on the chicks head has something to do with the egg sac that the chick grows in.

I am wondering when the chick hatched if there was still some of the egg sac left or maybe it could be the beginning of a parasitic twin. If the chick is in no pain and the growth does not get any worse, I would watch it. If the growth is part of the egg sac, it should absorb back into the chicks body. If not, you may need to ask a vet or better yet, an old farmer that has had chickens for years. Good luck with your chick. I would say, watch and see what happens with the chick.

Chicken Girl Sue

I divided my chick area into two sections and moved the chicks that were pecking at my injured chick into one of the 2 sections. This has made for a better living arrangement for all. The chicks aren't chirping to be in the same area, they can see eachother because they are dicided by a screen, noone is pecking at the baby chick and every chick has access to the heat lamp, food and water. I never thought that this would be such a process!!

I hope the little chick continues to do well for you.
