Help please, Eggbound, tried lots of things, WARNING GRAPHIC PICTURE

Thank you for doing something. I hope she heals well and I'm glad she is on the road to recovery.

Should have gotten some pics of that egg for us, it looked like it had an interesting texture to it.

Oh I am so glad to hear she is alright!!! And, a small episiotomy will heal much better than a tear had that happened.

You did great!!!

Oh fantastic, I've been so worried!

You're going to have to keep an eye on her - scar tissue can be really tough, she might have problems again real soon. Keep her dark as long as possible, so she doesn't need to lay and split that open again!

WELL DONE!

I don't know, so I'm going to ask.

Wouldn't it be better to let her go right back to her normal laying cycle? If it splits open because of the laying, wouldn't it just heal split? I mean, does it matter that it healed split as long as the eggs are able to come through?

Just pondering, thought I would share my thoughts.

I kindof agree with you, Kim. If there was minimal blood, I would just let her go. OR, maybe Lilbrat should find a chick and let her hen sniff the chick and maybe that will make her go broody, LOL

I just think that by letting her return to her normal laying, it will heal however it is most conveniant. Does that make sense?

No sense in letting it heal back the way it was, if it's only going to cause a repeat.

Unless it's going to cause problems, let it heal however it needs to.

I would think letting it heal as long as possible would be best, before it starts the daily egg laying routine.

Can you IMAGINE giving birth RIGHT after giving birth - and again and again?

The chance of infection would also increase, with each time the tear split open again.

I kind of agree with letting it heal however it needs to for her to lay properly. I do want to isolate her to rest for a while longer though. She still sits down a bit more often than she usually would.
I'm actually more concerned with that egg shell texture.
We have 2 barred rocks, 3 black astrolorpes and a buff orpington (and the two little cornish hens) that are just starting to lay.. this may have been her first egg.
I can imagine after this, she might want to wait to try again.

Congratulations on the surgery. I'm going to have to bring a scalple home from work in case this ever happens to me.

I hope she gets better quickly.

edited to add: There is absolutely nothing wrong with DILUTE hydrogen peroxide. It comes in the brown bottles and I would put 2/3 water w/ 1/3 peroxide. When it is dilute, it cleans and actually oxygenates the tissue allowing it to heal. Full strength would indeed kill good tissue.
