Help please, Eggbound, tried lots of things, WARNING GRAPHIC PICTURE

wow, this has been gross and amazing. I would give the girl some electrolites after that crazy ordeal. good luck in the future. I had one chicken that continued to lay eggs without a problem and two that ended up dying.

If you go back a few posts, hardyhen, she took care of business! And she did good! But that tong thing might be a good idea in a pinch.

mama barred is spending another night in the hospital cage.. she looked positively pooped after spending most of the day in the yard - and there were a coupla birds being rude to her.. pecking her away from food - and she took it. She would usually be the one to be fresh so I brought her in for the night with fresh food and water.
She didn't come right to me... I had to kind of usher her into the cage. I figured a night in the coop might be stressfull - and getting up to perch might be too much with only two days R&R. I just hope she doesn't try to lay right away.

Wow I just read this whole thread and what a great job you did with your hen. What a loving chicken owner you are.

I was wondering, because of the episiotomy would there be any chance of an infection in her vent?n Just a thought, in case you might want to give her oral antibiotics?

I had a GLW have a similar problem with her first egg. Except the skin around the egg was completely closed. The skin was really thin. The egg had no way out. I freaked. I went and grabbed a knife cut a little hole and then broke the egg. She was instantly relieved. The inside of the egg just drizzle out and the shell fell out later in the day. She hasn't had any other issues.
