Help anyone I have a hen that I think is eggbound. Her bottom is really distended, like her pelvic area. I placed her in a very warm bath earlier, she seemed to really enjoy it, but I didn't help her. I did try to feel for and egg by lubing up my finger and placing it in her vent. I didn't feel one. She has not been well for a week now. Anyone with any advice please let me know.

If she is eggbound, it may take several warm baths. Try giving her a little olive oil soaked bread...to lubricate things a little. Make sure, after the warm bath, you dry her well...and put her in a warm safe place. NOT back into the coop. Good luck with her, I hope she gets well soon!

Thanks Justusnak, I didn't know if I needed to try the warm bath once or several times. She is in a dog crate in my living room beside the wood heater. I have a blanket over her to keep it dark. I did give her some ritz crackers with oil on them the other day and boy has she had some loose stool from that. Thanks alot.

How long should each warm bath be? Any suggestions please. Should they all be in the same day or one each day?

I had the same problem and Farmer kitty helped
i gave a warm bath for 2 days in the bathroom sink and she loved it and finally she passed an ugly gift..
but she is fine now try Vasoline to her vent.
hope this helps. bath time was about 20 minutes.
for us.each time.

I have her in the sink right now. I can tell that she is really trying to push something out. Her feathers fluff up and she is really pushing. I am going to continue to bathe her today and if nothing happens I may have to have my husband put her down. She has been sick for well over a week now. I don't want her to suffer. I have been trying for the past three days I think to help her with the baths. It just may not work, but I am still hopeful. Thanks everyone.
