Hello HenFriends!
Just wanted to give you an update and maybe seek for some more help from you guys. It's very precious to me.

So my girl Vanilla is doing good. Eating well, eating her full B2 vitamin every morning as well.

She's ben improving because she can get up from lying to up on her ''elbows'' and she can stand completely up if I lay her on fet feet, but still no walking or getting up from A to Z.
I see a little improvement everyday though.. She can lay down on a perch or a stick for a while so her balance is getting good.

So now my concern is:

Will she be able to rehabilitate completely?
What else can I do to help her get there?
I know hens and the sun cycle is important, so should I add vitamin D to her daily portion?

Thanks a lot in advance and have a good night!

(Trying to upload a picture)

YAY I got it.
So this is a little collage of the progress. from the day I found her almost dead, to when she was able to lay down with her head straight, to now where she can stand still on both feet.
*WARMS MY HEART*

night night

Thanks for the update

It's hard to know to what extent recovery will be, but hopefully she will recover fully. It looks like she is improving. Sometimes it's a slow process.

I know it's winter, but she may benefit from being outside in the sun or being placed by a sunny window for a while each day. Giving her a little food(s) rich in Vitamin D may be better than a supplement.

Food rich in Vitamin D:
Tuna, Salmon, Mackerel, sardines, egg yolks, beef liver. Any of these can easily be added to her food or given as a treat. Mine love hard boiled eggs and I have given sardines occasionally, they seemed to like that as well.

Thanks for the info.
I do give her tuna and egg yolks but with four dogs around, as soon as I turn my pack her lunch is stolen LOL.
It's also hard to get her in the sun ray because im not home during the day.
I do take vitamin D everyday in gel caps, would you not suggest that I give her some? I don't want to cause any damage.

This morning when I got up, she was out of her sling.

I also have her practicing her balance on poles :)

Ha! I bet the eggs and tuna don't last long

Check the ingredients in your poultry feed that you give her. Most feeds already contain Vitamin D. I am not a nutritionist, so you would need to research it, but I would think that if her feed contains Vitamin D, that, along with the egg and tuna should be sufficient.

She sounds like a wiley little girl- getting out of her sling, may be a good thing(?) She is so cute. Looks like her balance is getting better

Hello Friendly people
I wanted to give you an update and maybe ask for some other expert advice.:)

My Hen is doing good, she is now walking around without much problem, but still falls if she tried to go to quickly or if she tries to jump of her perch.

I bring her to the coop every morning, it seems ok with the others, although she doesn't really move around so Im concerned of letting her there she probably wouldn't go down to eat, or up to perch herself for the night..

Plus she's been living near the fire stove in the basement, it gets very warm, im concerned of putting her back in the coop where its a good 25 degree LESS than inside.

Also, I've been noticing sometimes she starts scratching her hear VERY hard, like she's doing ''crazy'' and I've never seen this before. Since her balance is a little off, she usually ends up falling down while she scratches. Any ideas on that? :/

I'm reading a lot and.. could it be a SEIZURE?
maybe thats why I found her half dead and vomiting
and she doesn't get upside down acting weird for a couple seconds, often..

Could that be it???
is it treatable?

I just posted on your new thread. I was wondering if she might be showing signs of wry neck, which is basically a neurological symptom. It is common in head injuries, vitamin deficiencies, may be hereditary, and can be a symptom of Mareks disease, leukosis, and later stages of other infectious diseases. Vitamin E, thiamine (B1,) and selenium which is found in egg, canned tuna, and other foods, can be used to treat wry neck. I would try some menthol ointment found in BenGay and other arthritis ointments, on her comb to help soothe the itching. Fish oil capsule applied to her feed may help itching as well. Chickens can have seizures, but I would doubt that many vets know how to treat them. I remember a couple of threads that described grand mal seizures. One vet prescribed phenobabital, a common antiseizure drug, but it did not stop them. She sure is a photogenic and sweet hen.
