Help quick bloody poop and chick very ill Please? UPDATE

okay everyone knows the problems I have been having with my delaware chicks well I have another that is urgent

We went out to feed our babies this evening and one of my barred rocks is down. he is 4 weeks old also and he will not eat won't drink,, just lays with his eyes shut we also found bloody poop in the brooder so I suspect cocci. although they have been on medicated starter since hatch. they have not been in any contact with any other bird I just don't understand what is going on it looks like I am going to lose everyone of my birds. do you think it could have been something in the eggs before they hatched? I bought the eggs off ebay both them and the delawares and they hatched the same day in the same incubator

I too have had problems with Cocci and three batches of chicks in a row, starting at about 3-4 weeks old - also chicks that had never been intergrated with flock and lived in off-the-ground, wire bottom hutch and were on medicated chick starter.

Start them on Sulmet immediately and give it for 5 days. I haven't lost any once starting the Sulmet. I would also add vitamins to their water to help with the weakness.

Put some Carnation powdered milk in their starter about 1 to 3 ratio and stir it up together. It will help coat their stomach and aid in the healing. This is in addition to the other treatments.

Cocci is everywhere. Anytime you go outside you get it on your shoes. If you take off the shoes you get it on your hands. etc. Start your babies on sulmet right away. I had to do my hatchery chicks that way. I had them for about a week. THen it started and I beat it. Now i have healthy 13 week olds. Good luck with your babies. jean ps yogurt is good after the 5 day rx but do not give milk product until rx is ended. it interferes with the med.

I already put them on sulmet but is there anyway to save this one? it won't drink. I got an insulin needle pulled the needle out and put the sulme water in it dh got a little down his throat but he really looks like he is dying its my biggest and prettiest roo and I don't want to lose it how can I get the meds down him if he won't drink?

May not be cocci! Lots of things can cause bloody poo. have one of the chicks tested by the state lab. Jean

I have often force fed sick chicks. I gently open the beak and put a drop of water in the bottom front of the open beak and let them close the beak. Instinct will force them to swallow. I was able to get Sulmet in some sick chicks this way and they recovered. They were so far gone that I didn't have anything to lose by trying, they couldn't eat/drink or even stand up. They did recover. Do some Poly-vi-sol drops the same way but get that Sulmet in them right away.

there is no way I can have it tested by the state lab we live way back in the mountains in southeast ky there isn't anything like that around here. everything you have done here has to go to frankfort and that is over 400 miles from where I live.

wow ours is over a hundred miles too. I hate that. I know you must feel terrible. I hope the force feeding helps it some. I lost two and it broke my heart. Now the rest is really healthy. Jean

we got a few drops of the sulmet water in its mouth and it pooped in the hospital brooder and it was white with blood around it. it is still alive will give more drops of water in a little bit. how can I force feed it if it lives? I have canned dog food and dry cat food and chick starter. how do I get it to eat. I promise it was fine this morning. we went to feed them and they were running all over the place waiting to be fed. they are on a wire bottom brooder with a wood shelf under the wire so we can keep them clean but before they were in a different brooder house with a dirt floor and straw for litter but it is cleaned every 2 days.
