Could be stress like Wyorp Rock said or if it was warm inside she may have been panting? I’ve brought one of my girls in before in and she did that because she was getting too warm in her winter feathers.I didn’t see her do that outside, so i think so.
That definitely could be it. It was just a bit chilly for me and the rooster didn’t do that at so it made me think that maybe wasn’t it.Could be stress like Wyorp Rock said or if it was warm inside she may have been panting? Some birds do go through a light molt at under a year old. I had a few that molted when they were 9 months of age.Is it possible to molt under a year old? Im just wondering if its concerning by her loosing so many feathers.
Im not sure, shes not completely bald there, i see little shafts, but they haven’t bloomed as new feathers yet. Some birds do go through a light molt at under a year old. I had a few that molted when they were 9 months of age.
Do you see new feathers coming in?
Give it a few days and see if the pin feathers get longer and bloom feathers.Im not sure, shes not completely bald there, i see little shafts, but they haven’t bloomed as new feathers yet.
I had no idea that they could, thank you. This makes me feel a bit more hopeful that it might not be something awful.
Photo of her vent?Todays update:
I checked her body for any abnormalities, i saw none. Im 100% no expert so when i was “checking her crop” i was just looking for a few hazardous signs.
Her crop seemed okay (to me) though not full, it was small. She ate less today. I made her some egg and could not get her to eat a speck of it, i tried for a few minutes to get the tiniest speck in her mouth because i figured if she swallowed some she might eat more, but no luck. I tried mash (water + grain) and she didn’t eat any, unlike yesterday she ate a lot.
She did eat some scratch but thats really all i saw her eat today, along with a bit of grass with the other chickens.
No eggshells, no mash, no eggs. I was able to put a few small drops of Nutri Drench in her mouth. She was very cold so we brought her in.
I saw nothing black on her body, i saw no eggs on her body, i saw nothing, everything seemed okay. I checked her vent, though. It was very “chapped” like cracked and (i know its gross) but crusty looking, and yellow. Any thoughts on what that is?
Otherwise, not a big update. Where should i go from here?
She has laid eggs, but she stopped. Its winter so i don’t expect her to, the others were laying aswell (around same age, same breed) but they slowed and haven’t laid as much.Photo of her vent?
Has she been laying eggs at all? If you said, I missed that part.
Yellow and crusty on the vent almost sounds like egg material, but hard to know.
She's alert and able to move about o.k.? You may want to give her vent a cleanup and apply a little ointment, oil or similar to see if that helps.
