I've smelled rotten pumpkin before & it ain't good! I've never experienced that smell with chickens. I wondered if @WVduckchick had. I know she has a lot more experience with littles than I do.

The odor isn’t as strong as a rotten pumpkin but it’s definitely there.You misunderstood, I mean real rotten pumpkin.. it stinks! I've not smelled it on a chick before.
