Hello, we recently discovered red chicken mites in our coop. If you don’t know what they are the suck on your chikens your blood during the nights which causes
less laying, feather lose and more. It eventually kills them. If anyone has had this before please help we have deep cleaned the coop twice and they still come back. Does anyone know if vinegar kills them. Please please help I need advice or someone to tell me how to get rid of them. This is the only photo I have taken but it’s 10x times worse then what you seen in this photo. The hide is every crack of our coop. One of my hens is broody and I pick her up and they get all over me which means she in there with them all day. Shes come out with scraches and blood on her face. I took a piece of paper and rubbed it around the coop it had smudged blood on it which confirmed we have them. Please I need help asap.

Get some Food Grade diatomaceous earth and a mask. (Its organic and crushed up fossil powder...so its even food grade.."safe" for humans/animals) .........but it DOES organically get rid of anything with an exoskeleton AKA insects. I would liberally dust with that stuff.it is a fine powder that I have spread around before. Its safe for animals and people...but not for insect. Also good in the yard to get rid of fleas etc. Its really awesome stuff thats chemical free.
Tractor supply _ often has a different DE that instead is mixed with bentonite(clay powder essentially)........its used as a feed additive for livestock.........this makes the powder less potent and much heavier....but ive used that kind too.
Im sure a feed store or a store like tractor supply would have some version of DE you could use.
DE should at least help with your problem.......hopefully others will chime in with other ideas too....i dont know......ive never had a terrible mite problem....
Although it is "safe" for humans/ animals to touch and technically even eat......you should avoid breathing it in. Maybe wear a mask.
Good Luck!

Permethrin, which is a good insecticide that is inexpensive and comes in a concentrate to be mixed with water for a spray bottle or garden sprayer, is most commonly used against mites on birds in warm weather, and on treating coops. Unfortunately, it is no longer available in Canada. If you have a way of getting it from elsewhere, that might help. There is a permethrin garden dust that is good to use on chickens during warmer weather. Spinosad products are also used for mite treatment. Ivermectin is used sometimes, but there is a long egg withdrawal time.

Neem oil and sulfur powder are some other treatments that can be used, though neem has to be used often. Heat from a heat gun is one way to kill mites in hard to reach areas of the coop. I just read an article about that. That might be difficult for some coops and time consuming. Once you have mites, they can be extremely hard to get rid of. Once you treat your chickens, the coop, nest boxes and roosts must be treated after all bedding is removed far away or burned. Make sure that your chickens dust bathe often. That can help a lot.

Here are some articles to red about mites and lice and possible treatments:

Diatomaceous Earth (DE) wont do squat against external parasites.
Just for your information, red chicken mites can infect chickens with spirochetes. In order to kill the spirochetes, a low dose antibiotic is needed to control them. If the spirochetes are all killed at once, a massive die off will kill the infected chicken.
It is imperative to follow the advice that @Eggcessive has provided.
