I think it would make more sense and MEAN more...if they gave her less verses to learn...so she can actually UNDERSTAND what they ALL mean...not just memorize them.
I think understanding them would be much more important...
and i agree..thats ALOT for a child to rememebr....heck...i'm 36 and i couldnt do it...

My son went to a Christian school. When he was five years old, he memorized a whole chapter of Matthew. It was at least 25 verses, it was the passage of Christ's birth, he understood it! It can be done, just make it fun to learn. God bless, Theresa
 
Try the New king James much easier.
I would sing the verses, put them in a melody form and she'll be memorizing them in no time.
As to the verses you don't understand ,if your really interested I will be happy to answer them for you. Give me some time and I will get it together and post it here or pm you whichever you perfer.

Any religious thread I have seen has been shut down except for the offical pagen one! I hope this one will remain!!

Hey thanks guys! I know I can depend on you for the translations! One of you sent me a link and I saved it under my Favorites which I will use it for my references. I must admit, I must learn alongside with my DD so I can teach her. I love to read it now LOL! It refreshing my memories as I read the Genesis which I enjoy reading it. Now if we can get an adult type of picture book, it would make it much more interesting LOL! I bet God would love us reading picture Bibles for those who are so KJV illerate.

Is KJV is the only languages used in American Bibles? I know there is a "modern English language" Bible...please tell me what it is so it can differ from different Bible writings like KJV.

Ok, WHO was THAT monk that wrote it???????? Why did they have to make it so difficult for us to read it? Wouldn't those English teachers rap student's knuckles for being so thy, thou speaking among themselves?

Hubby got two Bibles, one is an OLD German Bible, all in German....sorry I do not read German but it was a very nice find when he won a box of old books from an auction, along with Mein Kampfh (by Adolph Hilter) in first publishing (sorry I didnt read his book), and the German Bible is very small and in black leather covers with gold letterings. I bet it was a hand held Bible, probably about four inches tall. I can not tell if it is written in KJV. It was published in 1872. He has another bigger Bible but can not find it right now, it was packed away.
 
Galatians 5:22-23: But the fruit of the spirit is love, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance, against such there is no law.

KJ notes paraphrased:

Paul is writing to the Galatians. He had helped lead them to Christ. When he left some Jewish teachers (called Judaizers) taught them that to be saved one not only must believe in Christ but must also obey Mosaic Law... the sign in which is circumcision. They also attacked Paul's apostleship and gospel. So Paul is writing the Galations to expose the errors of the Judaizer's impure motives (6:12, 13). His ultimate goal is to keep them from embracing a false gospel and to encourage them to retain their spiritual freedom in Christ (5:1). He does not want them to be tied up into the laws and the legalism.
Theme: The central feature of the letter is justification by God's grace through faith.

chapter 16 heading:

Walking in the Spirit (meaning the Holy Spirit that is of God)
It starts with a list of things that if one engages in will NOT inherit the Kingdom of God (go to heaven).

Then 22: Notes:
"In contrast to the works (plural) of the flesh, which any individual is capable of performing, the fruit (singular) of the Holy Spirit can be produced only by God. Christian character thus results from "Christ living in me" (2:20). For this fruit to develop, all nine aspects of the fruit of the Spirit must mature.

Illustration: The character of Christ is the fullest manifestation of this fruit in the New Testament. Though Jesus did not recognize the traditions of men. His enemies wer unable to prove any charge against Him.

Application: So today, Christians should allow the Holy Spirit to develop this character within them, so they might be blameless before others and not hinder the testimony of Christ. (First Reference, Ex. 35:31; 36:2; Primary Reference, Gal. 5:22, 23: cf. Phil. 1:6)."




Me:

Because the truth is you don't have to be circumcised to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven and what ever else it was that the Jewish teachers were trying to teach the Galations. These are not God's laws... those were man's laws. Because God teaches love, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.

When you hear fruit or fruit of the spirit. Think about a grape vine. A person who tends a vineyard will prune his vines. He will prune off that in which does not bear fruit and that in which is dirty and has soiled and withered leaves which do not help the plant grow... they are hindering growth. So he takes away the bad in order to help the good flourish. And when the vine can flourish it produces good fruit and in abundance. This is much like the way God prunes us.

Psalm 97:8 Zion heard and was glad.


This Psalm's heading is: The Lord is far above all gods. (notice little g... God is big G... gods are little g)

God is all. He is the Great "I am." It is with great joy that we as believers rejoice in the Lord for He is the one that Has delivered us from evil and has made a place for us in Heaven.

Often what you will find in the Bible are references to places that take on a human characteristic. Chap. 8... Zion heard and was glad; and the daughters of Judah rejoiced because of thy judgments, O Lord.

Zion: designates the Land of Israel and its capital, Jerusalem.
Judah: one of the 12 tribes of Israel

The 97th Psalm ends with, "Rejoice in the Lord, ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of His holiness."

We are to always remember Him and rejoice in His name for He saved us from eternal damnation from our sins.


Earlier when I said to keep an open mind and the scripture will become clearer... there are a couple of things you can do to help:
1)Pray and ask the Lord to make it clear to you.
The Bible talks about milk and meat of the word. When you are just getting into it, it is like milk for a baby... a baby can not chew meat. So what is revealed are the things you need to know and when it is time He will make it clear to you. It says like dark glass is made clear... then you have a better understanding. When you are ready then you will understand more of the meat of the word.
It's certainly an undertaking and that is why I find the King James Study Bible by Nelson so helpful. But knowing His word and His guidance is laid out there in this Gospel for us to follow and knowing the more truth and knowledge we can discern from it will help us stay away from false prophets (because there are A LOT of them out there and they have many fooled) it is also good to know as much scripture so we may help those who seek answers about God.
