How long does she have to memorize these verses? Are they due Monday or by end of semester?

I can quote most scripture but can't tell you chapter and verse (in most cases) if you held a gun to my head. I never could memorize any type of numbers - not phone numbers, not addresses, not multiplication/addition/substraction tables, not dates. I don't even know my own phone number on most days and rarely get my address correct. How I got all the way through college with an "A" average is a wonder. I keep a file-a-facts for all phone numbers, including those of my children and parents.

The way I learn is by understanding and get the "gist" of something. I also can remember just about anything I read and I read volumes and volumes of books. So memory works differently for some of us. I would think by buying a Bible that is in simple, modern English, you and your daughter can learn the scriptures together and it is more important to have a basic understanding of their meaning than to memorize the chapter and verse numbers (in my humble opinion). However, I have an awesome respect for those who know the chapter and verse number for every scripture.

When I was under 5, my sister and I attended a Vacation Bible School.
We had to memorize scripture as well. Once or 2 verses a week.
It was hard because of course we didn't understand and it was hard to work our little tongues around those odd words, but our Mom made a game out of it. We broke each verse into 2 or 3 word chunks.

I think maybe unless they really need your child to understand the verses, just memorizing the words in a way you can help her with is ok.

I was thinking more on the lines of it is relatively easy for a child (or anyone) to learn by memory "Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house..." and all the way t its end, than to take one phrase from this, and another from a different poem or story and a third from something else and memorize them all. In hte first scenario, a somewhat logical sequence of events is followed--each portion reinforces what comes afterwards. In the later, they have no obvious connection, much less sequence.

And, since the child is 5 and attending a Christian school, it would be nice to get her her own child's Bible. They are written for children with easy to understand scripture and pictures. This is only her first assignment, there will be many more.

As far as adult Bibles, my favorite (and I have many) is "The Spirit Filled Bible". It is New King James (I think) so not the "old" language, easy to understand, with lots of explanatory footnotes. It is also filled with Word Knowledge explanations (hebrew vs. greek, etc.), concordance, and miscellaneous reference sections. I've learned more from it than I have any other Bible. Sometimes I find myself simply reading the footnotes they are so detailed and in depth and I find myself saying "I never knew that" or "I never thought of it that way".

This is a praise scripture - it is God who made the mighty strong, so they are to give Him the glory for their strength. They are also to give him (serve him with) their strength.

John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. does this mean that Jesus is the way (guidance), the truth and the life and no man can come between Jesus and the sinner???????????????????/

Jesus is the way to God. Because we are separated from God by sin, no one can come unto the Father (God) unless they come through Jesus.

Matthew 6:24 No man can serve two masters. I am guessing God is one of the masters but who is the other one unless it is Jesus. Would we serve under God and Jesus at the same time?

You cannot serve God and the Devil. Not that most people would want to serve the Devil, but he disguises it as chasing riches, being selfish, ect. Yes, we can serve God and Jesus at the same time, as Jesus is serving God.

Ephesians 6:11 Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. I am lost on this one!

The passage goes on to say; That we are not fighting flesh and blood (people), but spirit (the Devil). In other words, it's a battle between God and Satan, and if we are to fight effectively on God's side we need to wear the armor he's provided. It lists the armor: Truth, Rightousness, The Gospel of Peace, Faith, Salvation, the Word of God.

2 Corinthians 5:17 There fore if any man be Christ, he is a new creature, old things are passed away, behold, all things are become new. I do not have any idea what it means.

If any one has salvation through Jesus (Christ), he is made new, his sins are forgiven and forgotten. He is starting over.

Psalm 99:5 Exalt ye the Lord our God, and worship at His footstool, for He is Holy. need translation for this one.

It is saying to worship and praise God, because he is holy and deserving of our praise.

Psalm 97:8 Zion heard and was glad. Am I supposed to read about Zion to get the idea what he has heard and why he was glad?

Zion is a place. As in, "America heard, and was glad." The whole verse says: "Zion heard and was glad; And the daughters of Judah (inhabitants of the land) rejoiced because of thy judgments, O LORD." They were rejoicing because of God's righteous judgments.

I am going to flunk these God's verses...........if God needs to give me a grade, it better be a "F"!
