HELP! Religious subjects.......

DD is at Decatur Christian School in Forsyth, IL...a school for all religions except for Jihad or Islam which they do not have that type of teachings.

I read her the kid's picture Bible....she enjoyed it but there isnt enough description in between. I like details but to omit those neat details, it is like having those yellow college note books (can't remember what they were).

Then I worked on the first verse, as I stated on the first page, of Matthew 7:7.....I forgot how to say Matthew seven dot seven.....or do you say Matthew seven, seven????? I read her the verse a few times, she just could not do it. She can say Matthew seven seven and "Ask,......." "That's a stupid thing and I can not do it". I told her that she CAN do it.

The teacher did not specify but all she said that she has to memorize those verses because the class has already done that. Now that is overwhelming!

They are taking in more new kids now, openings for kindergartens and first graders. They moved from the old school to the new school just last fall to accept more kids into the program. However I do not see very many kids in grades 7-12. It is mostly grades PreK to 5 graders I saw and I am guessing the parents either relocated OR went to the middle school in Decatur which it is much better than the grade schools and only one in the area.

If she can tackle it one thing at a time, all for the better!

26 verses for a 5 year old? Yikes! Back in my day we were given one at a time to memorize, study, etc.

Google is your friend though.... type in the verse, and when the results pop up look for KJV, not NKJV.

The word thou....does it mean YOU or HIS?

This old English terms are getting confusing at times which I had to twist around the words as to YOU, HIS, MINE.

My sweety and I both studied religion. We took slightly different paths... but hey.

We have a program called E-Sword that we used for our classes. It will translate the bible from any source into another (KJV into the more modern versions or even back to hebrew!).

I can translate them to an edition you prefer if you think it will help.

Maybe I would just stick with one verse at a time and maybe one sentence at a time between commas to start with!

A great on-line Bible source is: www.biblegateway.com

There is a search box where you can type in any scripture or chapter/verse and it will pull it up. There is a drop down box where you can choose from any one of many versions from old King James to new and modern. You can choose which language you want it in. There are buttons (the middle one expands and shows the full chapter), the arrows take you to the previous or next chapter, and best of all, there's an audio button where it will be played for you in audio format so you and your daughter can hear it read (in whichever version you choose). There is also a Commentary button that will explain and discuss the scripture.

It should make learning fun for you both.

As I posted before, this will not be her last assignment so might as well make it fun.

Twenty six verses in one weekend is too much. I think you mentioned that she is catching up. How long does she have to catch up? Base how many verses to memorize at a time based on how long. Space it out.

Does she need to know book, chapter, and verse? Later on it would be good to know but does she need to know now? Seems like you should be asking the person that gave the assignment.

Is that correct? Is that pertinent to her assignment? Asking is that correct is the wrong thing to ask here. It causes lots of contention because of different interpretations.
