Saw a one-week-old yesterday with his mouth open and wings slightly spread. I thought he was hot so I moved him away from the lamp. This morning it is clearly something else, looks like gasping for air. No rasping or rattling and still chirps. Body temp is good. What can I try?

I dabbed on VetRX, gave a couple drops of Nutri Drench and Poultry Cell.

Don't force anything in to a chick's mouth. One drop down the wrong pipe will slowly kill it.

What is the temp under that heat lamp?

Are you using an actual heat lamp bulb in a plastic tote?

Do you have a thermometer in the brooder? Check the temp on the floor under the light. Raise the light to keep the temp around 85, then decrease by 5 each week. Make sure there is a cooler spot to get to if she is too hot. Gasping may be seen when they are dying, but hopefully you can offer some fluids and electrolytes up to its beak to drink. Quickly dip the beak for a half second for it to drink on its own. Check for any dried poo on its vent.
