Help Roo Attacked Me, Leg In Major Pain/red..mine

Medically, you know what needs to be done for yourself.
The rooster, well you have to make a difficult decision
a. keep him and figure out how to deal with him
b. remove him/kill him and replace him eventually or not at all

if a then
Catching him at night in the dark is easiest if he roosts. I'd cage him up tight for a few weeks while I recovered and decided what would be the best method for attempting training

if b then
see if someone wants him to eat and let them deal with him or butcher him yourself, nothing tastes better than MEAN rooster

or shoot him if you can't do the hands on thing and bury him or discard of his body in some other way you feel ok about

I grew up with Cesar Milan type techniques for all our animals... I don't find they work with roosters... I give & show respect for their space & their place, but make sure they know who is boss & food provider by visiting frequently. I believe mine think that I am their ally. That relationship works for us so far.

I second and third the people who say get yourself to a doctor asap.
I had a cat bite once that started doing the same thing your leg is - it can get *really* bad. You need to be on antibiotics, who knows what bit of muck from the coop got into the wound which is obviously now infected.

LOL, sorry, i mean show quility, if he is a pure breed he is beautiful for shows.

I hope your leg will be ok. My fav rooster one time went and jumped onto my brother inlaw and he kicked him down, i got so po, i mean my faced turned red, but my roo did not go after him agian after that, well that is until he saw him again. i had to keep him cooped in around others.

but yea it is best to hold the roo by his legs and then carry in like a football it is eiser that way.

This is what I think you should do...

Roos are easy to come across, and granted that you raised this one and picked him from the 6 others you had, it's not worth the medical expense. I hope you're leg is better. Have you decided what to do?

We have always had one roo that has acted kinda like this. The first one only liked to come after me. He would sneak up on me and try to get me. He was a bantam of some kind and I'm 6'4". One day he thought he had me and I kicked him and thought I had killed him. He went rolling down the hill. I thought how am I going to explain this to my son. But a few second later he got up shaking his head. Even after that he didn't leave me alone. A few months later the neighbors dog got him and alot of other chickens we had. That's another story. But then we had a black rosecomb who took over his job but never messed with me. He mainly liked my wife and unsuspecting people. He never hurt anyone and it was funny to everyone. Someone ran him over. So it was time for someone else to take his place and before he could really get going at it we sold most of our roosters.

This guy is alot bigger than the bantams we have had to do this and I wouldn't think twice about doing something to him. Either get a big stick and hit him upside the head with it or just eat him.

Wow, 2txmedics - that really IS a beautiful boy. I can see why you hate to knock him off. On the other hand, if he gives you a staph infection in your leg, the suffering and possible permanent disability isn't worth keeping him for another minute. Put a photo of him on Craigslist and see if another leghorn lover will take him in or do him in before he inadvertently does YOU in!

You should probably need to go see a doctor and make some chicken soup.

Beautiful he is but he got stewpot written all over him!

I had a few Welsummer roosters that came on me and they were GONE within a week!

I agree with all of this. Life is too short to be scared of your own animals. There are good roos out there and this one is not one of them. Aggression towards people=chicken & dumplings here.
