Hi all,

My isa Brown (her name is Boo) became lethargic yesterday and spit up while I was carrying her to the coop. Today, she’s keeping her eyes closed most of the time, but doesn’t lay down. She hasn’t been eating or drinking, but I think her crop might be somewhat full. When I gave her some water (mixed with apple cider vinegar) her beak looked and sounded sticky. I’m not sure if Boo has sour crop, and if she does, I don’t know how to treat it! I’ve had her in my lap for a while now, but when she jumped off she stuck her wings out but didn’t flap them, and she kept her wings out for about 8 seconds following the jump. Her droppings are all liquid and have been white/yellow. When she poops, not much comes out. Any suggestions, tips, or ideas would be greatly
appreciated!!!

You gave the most important information in your title, that she's three-months old. That tells us it's unlikely a stuck egg is the issue.

It does sound like she has sour crop, but there may be an obstruction farther along the digestive tract as well. Do your chickens have access to grit? Have you been feeding table scraps? Do they free range and eat long stemmed grass?

It's important you give your location so we understand how your climate figures into this. It can also tell us what parasites might be problematic. Adding this info to your profile will be a huge help to you in getting the help you need.

Now, you need to get someone to help you inspect the inside of her mouth and throat. You mentioned "sticky" in reference to her beak. This could be a parasitic disease that needs to be treated. Look for sticky plaque coating her tongue and throat. It also makes it hard for a chicken to swallow, and they can starve.

As for a possible crop disorder, ACV is no help to cure it. Read through this and you will better understand how crop issues need to be treated. https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...w-to-know-which-one-youre-dealing-with.73607/

My chickens are all free range, so they do have access to some grit and tall grass. The only table scraps they get are fruit and vegetables (ones that aren’t bad for them.) I updated my profile, and I live in northern New England. Thank you so much for the tips, info, and article! I will definitely read through that and give Boo a check up as soon as I get home.
