I have been nothing but helpful to you. The reason I ask if you are being abused is because you didn't want to answer questions and that is sometimes how people who are scared behave.

One more time, I don't have a website.

I honestly don't care what you tell people, they can read this dialog for themselves and decide. I am here to be helpful to the best of my ability, but without answers to certain question.... there is no way to make any appropriate suggestions. So AGAIN, I will ask questions to try and help.

Where did you get the chick, does it have any chick friends, how much protein is in your chick feed, ARE YOU GIVING TREATS, does the chick go outside, did the chick have an eye problem when you got it or did it get a predator attack or just you noticed it one day? What did you do to nurse the chick back to health? Is that missing feathers by the eye or an illusion of the pic? Where does your chick sleep, any outdoor access, do you use grit, what brand of feed...

All the questions I am asking are important. If you are giving treats (most of us do), it has to be very little because they don't have the nutrients to sustain life. Chick need chick companionship or they will be lonely, depressed and not eat. Your chick could have worms or mites.... Answers to the questions help to get to the root cause of the symptoms you are seeing. It may seem like a pain to answer questions when you are desperate for answers, but they are necessary.

I want to help if you want help! This is a great community here at BYC! And we all run into trouble and need help sometime.

Have you provided any electrolytes?

Also, none of my questions are for the reason of judging your understanding or practices.... Only to help you figure out what is going on. Chicken raising is a lot of fun but comes with a huge amount of learning and unfortunately some heart break. So please don't misunderstand why I am asking. I only want to help.

I see @Eggcessive here and you will get some more good advice from someone more experienced than myself!

Avian encephalomyelitis, vitamin A and E deficiency, and injuries or infections are very common reasons for blindness or injury. But Mareks can cause a type of wasting and weight loss. Blindness in general can lead to the chicken not finding enough food.

@Chickens23 This is a learning experience for me to. I commented to you that I didn't think illness caused blindness, But clearly have been shown now, that it CAN and DOES!

I am glad you are getting more attention and therefor help for you chick!

  • 2 c. Warm Water
  • 2 tbsp. Brown Sugar, Honey or white sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. Salt
  • 1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
Mix ingredients together and swirl until ingredients have dissolved. If you have a baby or toddler in the house, you can add a few drops (3-4) of their Polyvisol vitamins (A, B, D). With NO iron. Keep solution refrigerated. This solution can be use full strength or diluted.

This is a solution I have used successfully many times on chicks that were nutrient deficient from shipping.
If she is still able to drink, just replace her water with it. If she is too weak to drink, then drop on her beak and she will swallow when it runs into her mouth.
I am only sharing my experience and have no vet training. You must use your own judgement to decide if something is right for you or not. Still cheering you on!
