So i have 5, two week old chicks. Couple of hours ago everyone was happy healthy and eating. All of a sudden 10 minutes ago one of the babies got very lathargic. Sits there falling asleep, doesn't want treats, and every so often gasps for air. Any ideas? Everything else seems perfectly normal.

EDIT: also shivering even though not cold.

Crop is empty, no crackling, it is physicall shivering, I can't see her shiver just feel it when she is on my hand. One of my other ones shivers but it almost looks like out of excitement. So possibly not even related. (they are still little)

Not sure if she is drinking. I didn't see it drink :(

Wow. Well its good you dont hear any crackling. Not sure what it could be right now. Forgive the dumb question, but are they warm enough? Chicks are pretty good at self regulating as far as heat goes. The ideal situation is for them to be able to move in closer if they are cold and away if they are too warm.

They are warm. I am using pine shavings. What do I do now? No one is picking on her so she is ok. This is my first time wich chickens.

I have a similar problem.
The chick will eat and drink... But just stands there, feathers all ruffled up and falling asleep.

I don't hear any noise with the breathing but it did feel like it was shivering a couple times when I picked it up.

I would love to find out what's going on.

A week before I had another chick in the same group come up to me cheeping and I picked it up. It just fell asleep in my hand.

That one seems fine now, but the current one has been drowsy for two days.

Wow, Well its good you dont hear any crackling. Forgive the dumb question but are they warm enough? Chicks are pretty good at self regulating when it comes to heat. The ideal situation is to have a set up where they can move towards the heat if they are cold and away if they are too hot. Heres a link on shivering, Im reading and searching for you too!
