Tonight I noticed that one of my 9 week old silkies was acting very strangely. He was fine earlier in the day, but when I went to put him back in his cage, he was just standing there. He has no running or bubbly eyes, showing no signs of illness, just standing still. When I picked him up, he just seemed so listless. I isolated him away from the other birds under a heat lamp. When he tried to move, he was wobbly, like his equilibrium is off.

We are still very new to chickens, and up to this point, none have been sick. So, if anyone has any ideas as to what is wrong or what I should do, I'd appreciate hearing it. I'd like to be able to help him in the am, if its not too late.

Thanks.

Today, the silkie is eating a little, but still just standing around, not acting right. It almost feels there is something hard stuck in its crop. If so, is there anything I can do to help it, or should nature just take its course?

ETA...the crop is not large, you can just feel something really hard.

You can do a search on impacted crop if you think that may be the case....

If he is vaulted, he may have sustained a bump or peck on the head that knocked him around a little bit, hence why he is appearing wobbly. I think that most people will isolate the bird, and treat with Vit E for head injuries....

I was wondering if maybe he took a peck to the head, but didn't see any kind of sign that anything happened. But, we are in the process of integrating them with older birds, so it is possible. After reading about impacted crop, I am leaning more towards an injury instead.

If his symptoms are caused by a peck, is this something they normally get over? I guess as long as he is eating and drinking, we should just let him be??
