Help.....To Many Roosters.

I need to know what I need to do, I have 2 Cornish Rocks and 4 Black Australorps. I got a straight run so I did not know if they where going to be hens or roosters......Well it turns out that out of the 6 I got. I have 4 roosters. Up until now I have had no problems with them fighting but I just went out to feed them and one of the Cornish Rocks has two patches of feathers pulled out and the area looks very raw and red. I am going to have to separate them, I know. But what can I do with the rooster that is hurt. Can I put something on the wounds so they heal faster? I am at a loss here because I don't want to lose this chicken. We are not going to eat them because they are pets.

Cornish Rock? As in Cornish cross? If that's what they were called, then they are meat birds. They aren't known for a long life.

You'll need to either rehome 3 of the boys or make their own bachelor pad. Those are really your only options.

They make something you can put on it, I forgot the name of it, though. I heard someone say that you can put the stuff them make for cut tree branches on it, but that sounds painful to me. You might want to try seperating them for a while.

I have many roo's but they all seem to get along. There all different breeds. And there's enough hens to go around. I also let them free range most days so there not cooped up in the coop within to close proximity with each other.

I am thinking I am going to have to make a choice to see who gets let out and who stays....but for now my Cornish is staying because he is hurt. The only worry that I have is that we have outside cats on the property and I an worried that they are going to eat them. But I guess it is time to make a choice. I am going to have to keep the Cornish because it's my sons rooster.

if you get more hens, the roos won't have to fight over them.

Out of curiosity (and in the nicest way possible), why did you get 6 straight run birds if you aren't going to eat the extra boys? Why not just order all pullets, or 5 and 1? Unless you got them from a feed store...

Is it a true Cornish or a Cornish X? Is it the white bird in your avatar?

I got a straight run because I did not know any better. If I would have known about pullets I would have gotten more of them. I got them at the Tractor Supply. Keeping chickens is a new thing for me. Right now I am looking in to getting some more hens so that the boys have something to do.....No pun intended. I just have to find a place where I can get them. I do know of a place close by that has a poultry sale every third saturday of the month. So I am hoping that it will help.
