Yes, someone please don’t hesitate to let me know your opinions and thoughts. I wanna get it figured out by tomorrow if I can or Monday latest to get her switched to something that will keep her healthyLet's wait and see if anyone else chimes in though, because 14% seems low to me...
We usually go to a personal owned one a little feed store literally 2 min from my house and they know us so well and my Birds, but there’s also a tractor supply just 25 min from my house which is an option as well, just wanna get the best that I can get for her, my other birds may eat that as well if neededWell, if I'm interpreting TABLE 3-1 from this book https://www.nap.edu/read/2114/chapter/5 correctly, I believe a laying turkey needs 14% protein in her feed.
And I'm honestly not sure if brand matters so much anymore. It used to matter because some companies used animal based protein in their feeds, while others used plant based protein only. Animal based is better, but companies have been able to save so much money using plants that basically all the feeds are vegetarian now. So, as long as you get a nice layer crumble with 14% protein you should be good.
What kind of feed store have you got near you? Is it a Tractor Supply Co, or something else? If they have their products listed on their website I'd be willing to look at the choices of turkey feed and tell you what one I'd pick if it were me (that doesn't necessarily mean I'm right, but it's the best I can do, lol)
How will I know which feed will have all of that and be perfect for her..?I'd imagine the stuff you can get from the local place being better than at TSC.
I'm reading more in that book and there was an interesting addendum in the protein section: d Turkeys do not have a requirement for crude protein per se. There, however, should be sufficient crude protein to ensure an adequate nitrogen supply for synthesis of nonessential amino acids. Suggested requirements for crude protein are typical of those derived with corn-soybean meal diets, and levels can be reduced when synthetic amino acids are used.
So maybe it doesn't matter that 14% seems like not a lot as long as the feed has all the necessary amino acids.
It needs to have all of those things..? And the layer feed crumble I get will be great for her and ensure better quality of health for her..? And that’s the only feed I will be able to give after that correct..? No more seed..?Here, I cut the relevant nutritional needs information out of that table for you. Bring it with you to the store and make sure whatever food you get meets this requirements and you should be good.

Yep. It needs all of those things. I know it looks like a big list, but these are very standard ingredients. I'd imagine most, if not all, foods have them.It needs to have all of those things..? If you look at the nutrition information on the back of the bag it should list the amounts/percentages. Or if it's a feed that the mom and pop feed store makes they should still have the information available for you.How will I know which feed will have all of that and be perfect for her..?
That was an amazing analogy and way to explain that. Thank you so much for that, I know what you mean. Everyone eats that except my waterfowl which are on turkey grower crumble so I’ll keep the waterfowl on that still and try to get a layer crumble that will be perfect for her and probably feed my little bantam chickens the same feed as her? They eat TMC seed too. I hope she enjoys her seed the last day or so lol.. she loves it. Before she gets switched, I worry about her being picky and not touching it but she will get used to it and will eat it right? And I can still give grapes on the side? She loves those so muchYep. Yes, the layer crumble will be great/ensure better health because the pieces are small and easy to digest, and every piece is made of the exact same stuff, so she has no choice but to get all the nutrients. Imagine if turkeys ate skittles, and each different color of skittle had a different nutrient, like red skittles are protein, yellow skittles are fat, etc. If the turkey eats only yellow skittles because they taste better she's gonna get lots of fat and no protein (even though you offered a feed that had both, she's choosing to only eat one), but if you give her nothing but orange skittles (skittles that have the properties of both yellow and red, but can't be separated out) she'll have no choice but to get the fat and protein.
This is the only feed you will be able to give her after that. No more seed.
