Our boys found her wandering out of the woods, so we've taken her in. She/he does a crowing or tries to cock-a-doodle-do in the morning and at night. If anyone can help us identify whether it's a hen or rooster and what breed, we'd be very appreciative! My boys absolutely love her/him and if it's a him we can't keep him. Local laws only allow us to have 4 hens and no roosters.

Sorry. Maybe you could keep him anyway? Have you hard of a no-crow collar? I've never used one, and they're said to take a lot of messing around, but they're supposed to keep the complaints from the neighbors down.

Belgian D'uccle cockerel - Mille Fleur. He's young, at most five or so months old. Probably abandoned by somebody who can't keep roosters.

It's a shame you can't keep him, though cockerels and roosters usually aren't the best pets, especially for kids. Maybe a no crow collar, though they can be risky?
I'll disagree with you on the pets thing--my roos have always been more affectionate than my hens.

Thanks for the response! We may just keep him anyway, we're out in the middle of nowhere practically. He's very sweet and comes when I call him. We had heard a rooster a few months ago from a nearby neighbor, guessing they figured out it was a rooster and let it go.
