Help us identify our chicken

Thanks for the response! We may just keep him anyway, we're out in the middle of nowhere practically. He's very sweet and comes when I call him. We had heard a rooster a few months ago from a nearby neighbor, guessing they figured out it was a rooster and let it go.
I do not like people who just "let things go."
Good luck.

I'll disagree with you on the pets thing--my roos have always been more affectionate than my hens.

Yeah, a lot definitely are. I've had chickens for years, many many roosters and cockerels, but never one that was aggressive towards people. Still, if you're looking for a pet for kids, a rooster is usually not the best decision.

Fully feathered shanks and feet indicate mature cockerel or cock. Mille Fleur pattern is also quite well developed and while his comb is large, his muff and wattles are still very small. A nice fellow ,a bantam breed, and could be a nice pet if you could keep a rooster? Crowing also indicates "boy", and maybe he was let loose because someone could not keep him. Do you have a "shopping news"? Our weekly, has a section in their Pets dept. free listing , for giveaways. When I have extra pet giveaways, I find them good homes. Our town allows hens only, also, but the Shopping News covers several counties and reached many country folks. Good luck.

That's good to know thank you so much. We're new to owning chickens. It kind of fell into our laps or rather out of the woods and down the street, into my kid's arms haha. We've got a small farm going over here or so it seems. Every animal we find we end up keeping (e.i. our black cat we found on starwars day hence her name Leia)

He is adorable.

I think you will find him a charming pet. I have 2 house roosters of tiny bantam breeds who are very adored. They're very sweet, loving companions. Since he's a little dude, hopefully his tiny voice won't carry too far and he won't be a problem noise wise.
