I have a 3 month old hen who got attacked by older hens and twisted her leg..I am not sure if it's broken but she won't put weight on it. I isolated her so that she would be able to recover in a mellow environment with her own food and water, but she soon developed a large poop blockage on her backside. When I picked her up, she threw up some clear fluid. She was so weak at that point that she let me literally soak her backside in a warm tub, it became unblocked and she has now taken to cleaning it herself..although she struggles to balance on one good leg.

While feeding her the water, I heard some gastro activity - she literally seemed to be burping from time to time - what's that about? It sounds like when a human's stomach is growling.

What should I be feeding her? Advice about actions I should take to promote healing??

Thanks

I think you're doing everything you can for her. Let her rest and see if her leg will heal up. It is common for chickens that have full crops or are a little stressed to spit up. Not sure about the burping... I know some of my chickens make all kinds of strange sounds. If she doesn't seem in any stress besides her leg, I'd just keep her as still as possible with food and water close by and help her stay clean.....

Thanks for your reply chickenzoo..
She hasn't been eating anything in the past few days, and does not drink water on her own, but i will just try to keep her comfortable. Her neck area seems to be a bit bulging ..when i feed her water, the gas sound happens and she shakes her head as if there is a blockage in her throat..hopefully not an infected crop? I'll keep nursing :/

Sounds like air trapped in croop. Chickens do make burping sounds when the eat real fast or over eat. Is she a Cornish mix?
Sometimes when startled and in a panic they swallow air as well.
We recently had a cat get in our coop, injured two and killed a three week old...
We've had a lot of interesting lessons treating the flck for shock.
Sit her on your knee and pet her, as she starts to sleep gently bump your leg up and down ( like bouncing a baby), She'll burp.

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? I know it's an old thread but I have a chicken now that I think is suffering from a pendulous crop and now she is not eating much at all and is making a burping sound and sometimes like a growling stomach airy kinda sound. Any advice would be great though I feel like the end is near for this old girl, she's been with me for 12 years and I got her as an adult.

I'm sorry that your hen is not doing well.
Let's call in @azygous who is very good with crop problems.

This is great advice! We are trying it now.
