Help with feral/wild baby chick!

Hello again everyone!

Just wanted to give you a quick update. We now have 5 chicks, and I can no longer tell which one was the one that looked sick yesterday, which means they are all doing well. I assume the chick had probably just hatched, and my inexperience with this made me panic. I'm still so grateful for all your advice. :).

We live in a gated community with lots of chickens, so, even if they left our backyard, they would probably still roam around the community. The only real danger is fhe darn drain holes - the little ones tend to fall in those quite often. I'm just loving having them here right now! There is one last egg left, but no pip and I can hear liquid swooshing inside - that means it has not been fertilized, correct?

Thank you all again!

:weee Good news!

Yes, live embryos won't slosh at this stage of the game.

Such great news!!

and keep an eye out on those drain holes

Congrats on you chicklets!!

Hello everyone again!

Mama and chicklets have actually still been hanging around our backyard. However, yesterday she lost one of her chicklets. I managed to find him in the middle of the road and brought him back to her. He went underneath her, as it was time for them to go to bed. This morning, she had managed to lose him again. I did find him outside, and brought him back to her again. He looked kind of sick though, and I'm wondering if that is why she may be intentionally losing him? He looks puffed up and moves slowlier than usual. They were all happy and chirpy only two days ago. What should I do, if anything?

Thank you all again!

is there any blood in his poop?
it could be cocci if he is scruffy looking
very easily treated

Thank you so much for your reply!

I am not sure what his poop looks like, but this morning I did notice some smaller poop, which I assume came from the little ones (the adult kind is usually much more jurassic in size, lol), and it did look somewhat like frothy diarrhea (sorry for the TMI!).

I had to leave the house, so I don't know what mama is going to do. If he doesn't have blood in his poop, could it still be cocci? Anything that would be dangerous or contagious for us?

Thank you again!!!

it could still be cocci, not contagious, but can kill chicks/chickens quickly
if you have a feed store nearby you could pick up some corid or amprol/amprolium
its is about $25 and will probably last you forever
you mix it with their water(dosing is on the bag or i can look it up or you)

I'm on Oahu, I have no idea where to even look for a feed store...anything Petco may have, possibly? Any effective home remedies? Truly hoping to find the little guy still alive when we get home. How would I feed him, btw?

Also, I noticed that another one has started to develop some kind of brown discharge from one eye (still acts very happy and normal), similar to what cats often have. Any advice on that, by any chance?

Really appreciate your help! Will update once I get home.
