Help with new peacock!!

Anyway, whatever it is, no reason not to de-worm and start the Sulmet on both the peacock and the chicken. Gotta ask, how clean are your water buckets?

-Kathy
All the buckets are cleaned and refilled every morning (inside my house with hot water and soap, and waterers completely washed out when they are empty. They regularly go through the dish washer and large waterers are also sanitized before be re-filled. I'm a food service director and BIG on FOOD SAFETY - even for all my animals!!!

I just noticed this, how is your chicken? This might give the experts some clue about what your boy's problem may be:

I noticed that this chicken didn't seem to be feeling well the first night we had the peacock so why would there be a connection there? The peacock wasn't eating or drinking from the moment I brought him home. He had lice... so that freaked me out! I guess my anxiety was high about the well-being of my current birds and the conditions I had taken the peacock from. Like I said, I would not return this peacock and I certainly don't want my peachicks getting sick or any of my chickens!

I didn't really have a sense of the timeline of your chicken seeming unwell and your pea seeming unwell. But as I understand it (I am definitely not an expert!) things like cocci and worms can be present in/on the ground and therefore are easily passed between birds who are sharing space.
Luckily we have pea health experts like @casportpony here to offer educated opinions and excellent advice!

Given the timeline, I don't think the two are related. You need to watch any bird that has been where your new peacock has pooped, especially your peachicks. I seriously doubt theat he will make your chickens sick, but I do think there is a risk the the chicks could get whatever he has.

The peachicks love him so much I wouldn't want to separate them but would if that would be best for them. Should I separate them? The chickens and peafowl are in different runs and the chickens are free range during the day. If I treat the peachicks with the antibiotic and wormer do you think they will be ok? They are doing great right now, running around like crazy in the run with the peacock and they all sleep together too. The peacock is so gentle with them and puts up with all their craziness!
