Help with sexing polish chick

How do u trim? I read somewhere not to.trim but to pull them out from base? That sounds painful!
I trim but I time it. Never after molt, they can bleed. I trim once I can see that the shaft end near their skin is white and not too close to the skin. Never pull them. I just get some sharp scissors and give them a tiny hair cut and I do it over days to see how the feathers lie.

Oh wow...I'm so glad I saw this n asked! I thought that sounded unusual!

We lost our Mottled girly some months back and I’d love another. She was a hot mess. Big attitude, tiny body.
OMG. That describes our Spots to the T. She is loud, snuggly and so much larger than her little chicken body. She is one of my favorite chickens of all time!

I trim or put them into “ponytails”.
I'm glad u mentioned ponytails! How do u do it, what do u use, how long do u leave it up? I was concerned cuz mine are still getting their feathers in but polish can't see a thing! The wind blew yesterday n blew his crest all over to the side and he totally freaked out when he was able to see!

I’ve tried it with a few different bands, but ended up with those tiny clear or black elastic bands. You know the disposable type? I get packages of something like 1000 for $5 or so. They usually last 3-5 days and then I’ll throw another one in. What’s so crazy is, I do it because they can’t see, but they don’t love it when I put a new one in. I guess it feel odd to them. I don’t do it super tight and not right next to their head. They look like the characters from the Troll movies 😆!

Those are the ones. I haven’t done it while they’re molting. I tend to just trim around their eyes at that point. Right now I’m doing it because the stickiness of watermelon and weight of water are causing her crest to fall into her eyes. Poor thing. And she’s so hot!
