Help with what to do with roosters that can't be eaten?

Put them on Craigslist, nobody is going to use a silkie for anything nefarious and the only people that eat them are Asians.

I sure hope so. That is my next step. They are getting to big to fast. Note to self don't self to Asians unless I can verify they will not eat them. Lol

I would eat them. They are small but the soup doesnt care.

I need you as my nieghbor id give u all the roo soup yoy can harvest lol im slightly kidding...but dang i got 7 extra this batch

Really once they are no longer yours, don't ask questions.

Generally it is hard to think about this, unless that many roosters run your pullets ragged, and they can. Then it can get easier.

Hey im asian lol!! I dont want to eat mine

Yes, I'm think I'm a little too attached and don't like seeing defenseless babies being picked on so harshly. I will keep trying, hopefully it will work out. I have 96 inches of roosting space inside a 8 x 8 coop for 6 chickens, along with a run of about 80 sq ft but I let them free range most of the time and I have several feeding/water stations so I think I'm good on space and feeding. I'm just perplexed why they were OK when I integrated them but the adults are getting meaner by the day, especially when they get to free range. If I allowed them to keep pecking as hard as they do I'm pretty sure they would eventually draw blood but I'm trying to avoid injured chicks. I think I may divide the coop with wire for a week and put them together again. Thanks for all the advice!

First off, welcome to BackYardChickens! Hmm, silkies are seemed more as yard ornaments than food. Besides the internet, you could also sell him in an auction. Maybe post fliers? Or hand him to a friend who is willing to take him? If you can’t sell/give him away, you might have no choice but to kill him or make a run especially for the rooster.

I rehomed my silkie rooster in August. I made some flyers with his picture on it explaining he needed a new flock and described his temperament. I posted it at many feed stores. I got 4 people who wanted him and they all saw my flyer at the same place. I had to drive almost 30 miles to get to that particular feed store, but I know people are allowed to have roosters in that area. Good luck!
