HELP!! Wrong end pip?!?! (Oh No! Complications!!!)

That's good. It sounds like she's gearing up to hatch. The duckling did the same to me, it slowed down for a breather and had me really worried and then he perked up like crazy late yesterday evening. I'm not surprised it decided to wiggle out of that shell by itself, instead of waiting for me! LOL It was raring to go when I went to bed last night, but I was too tired to wait up.

I usually give mine food and water on the second day and they'll mess around with it without really eating. They may drink a little water though. They can live off the yolk they absorb just before hatching for ± 3 days.

It's a pity about her reproductive issues. Hopefully the surviving chick inherited Mom's temperament!

Thanks. The last one is zipping slowly... They are not my ducklings, I'm hatching them for my DS's teacher who's incubator broke. I phoned her to update already and said as soon as the last one is ready to leave the 'bator she must come get them. Or I'm ducknapping them! They are absolutely adorable and I'm in love already. It's better they go before we get too attached. But hatching them was a wonderful experience and I'm thrilled it went so well.

If I had a pond, i would get ducks!

Well pip # 3 seems to be in the waiting stage. Its almost like the membrane is drying up on this new chick. It is turning brownish around the edges, but theres plenty of moisture in the bator.

I think Im going bald. I keep tearing my hair out!

Broken chick is still kicking. She seems very active.

It's normal for the membrane to do that. Don't worry

And sit on your hands!

I appreciate your patience with me lol

Now if I could find some for my babies!!

Another egg is ricking, but I cant tell who is chirping and who is not!

Broken egg has been doing the same thing over and over, she jsut breaths and smacks her lips. Now and again she chirps or wiggles a leg, but no real efforts to get out yet.

She's nice and comfy in there. I had to learn patience quick with these ducks. My "problem" duckling took nearly 3 full days from external pip to hatching! Now try not to worry for 3 days! The last one is very nearly out and then it's time for the next round. I have a very ambitious bantam trying to hatch 24 eggs, some LF and some bantam. Found her on a hidden nest in the barn, so I'm going to sneak in there tonight and do a quick candle to see what's going on and which eggs needs rescuing.

if she is moving her beak kind of like gasping for air she is still absorbing the yolk sack. Its kind of like swallowing. The one thats in the brooder you may have to put marbles in the water. They are attracted to bright colored objects or act like her mommy and tap the water til she comes to take a look. Do the same with the food. Tap and pick up small piece then let it fall like the mommy does when she is teaching them to eat. Periodically you can peel a little of the shell away to monitor the vein progress. I cracked an egg at 10 days. put candle wax on the crack and really watched during hatch. She hatched just fine.

The baby chick didnt want anything to do with its water, but it did peck at the food when i showed her. She doesnt seem all that interested in it yet. She still is very wobbly on her legs.

the broken egg is definitely looking like she is swallowing. Lots of little beak movements. now and again she will let out a peep. her beak went from white to tan brown, more of a tawny color. She isnt dried out, she is well moistened.

I'm letting it dry off in the incubator now, then I'll phone their mom to come collect. It's been an interesting experience and I am sold on ducks now. They are great!

Uh oh, the little broken egg chick is starting to come out.....but it almost looks like it has no skull bones. It moves its head around and it looks like the skull is soft. is that normal?

can you get a picture? I would think if there was something wrong with the skull she wouldnt have made it this far. As for the one in the brooder just keep trying. They dont always pay attention to the momma either at first

She can live off the yolk sack for 3 days but the sooner you get her eating and drinking the stronger she will be.
