Hi all, I have a young pullet that was hatched in early March and today she is just sitting around under her house, not acting normal and her eyes seem to be staying shut. I have not tried to get her out from under there yet and I haven't noticed if she has been eating/drinking today or not. DH and I was gone alot today so I don't know how long she has been doing this for. Could the heat be the cause of this? Could it be an illness? What could make her eyes stay shut? What if anything should I be doing for her? I don't want to do anything wrong either?

Ok I so managed to get the little pullet out from under her house and of course I scared the poor baby as she didn't see me coming.
I checked her over good and there is no wounds anywhere on her,
upon checking her eyes it seems they are almost matted closed, 1 eye is closed and I could see a greyish cast to the other eye much like puss looks like. Any ideas as to why this is? What can be done for her if anything? She also has a mild odor that no one else has.
I am no expert on chicken care and don't want to make a mistake with her.

If the Oder is coming from her nose then it is possibly Corzoa, a respiratory type infection. It is often accompanied by pussy, matted up eyes or eye. Separate her from the others and always handle her last as Corzoa can spread from your clothes etc.. to your other birds. Some people cull these birds, some people treat them. Corzoa spreads from bird to bird often by nasal, saliva spray. You will need a strong antibiotic such as Tylan or LA200, both which are labeled for cattle. Birds that get Corzoa can become lifetime carriers of the disease, spreading it when they become stressed. You can treat for a week on Gallimyicin (sp) then treat with a vaccine then retreat in a few weeks. Any bird that develops it again are carriers. I wish you the best, research the disease and then you will be more able to make a decision if it is Corzoa or not. Best Wishes
