Help! Young Peking (6-7 wks) walks on the joints/"knee" of his legs

Here is some technical niacin info:

Hello @BrittAppalachia!:frow

I give my Pekins both of the liquid forms that Miss Lydia showed you. But each brand has different concentrations. So let me know which one you get and I can tell you how much to give them. The larger bottle will have to be sucked out with a syringe since it is in a medicine vial. But it’s no biggie. I would squirt it into their mouth. If you dribble a little at a time, they will swallow it down. I put it on mealworms since I know they will eat it really quickly. The reason I like the liquid is because it has faster absorption than other varieties. Which one that is having trouble walking will need. It will stain your clothes though.:D

I agree with what others have posted for more niacin and exercise. Putting it in the bathtub for swimming is exactly what I think it needs.

Others would have more experience with a shoe or device, but if they were mine I’d be willing to try it. They are resilient. If you need help. I can send you videos of exactly what I do with mine as far as administering the niacin.

And yes she means a sling to get it propped up off the hocks.:)

We got the Spring Valley bottle, the one with 59 doses. How much should we give him?

This says 100 mg in addition to the feed with added brewers yeast. Your b complex is 20 mg/ml, so I would suggest giving him 5 ml (one teaspoon).

:highfive:

Britt-It will be pretty easy. Since you have the dropper, just dribble it in their mouth or on their favorite treat. You can give them 5mls each day. I used this article to base the dosages off of.

I appreciate the help! Thanks so much. Hopefully this'll help and the appointment at the vet tomorrow will give us some more ideas.

I found this and it says 0mg of niacin, I add niacin to my flock raiser for ducks that don't free range. View attachment 1341718
Actually, it has it listed in the ingredients. I contacted purina they said it is 55ppm of niacin. They also said that I didn't need to add any extra, but I did just in case a duckling didn't eat enough or whatever to cover the bases.

No it's not. But have taken animal nutrition courses/veterinary and if it's not listed with numbers on the tag there isn't enough in the feed to make a difference even if it's listed in the ingredients. Can't trust feed companies, they will tell you anything you want to hear just to make you happy. Trust nothing of what you hear and half of what you see.
