In the Brooder

I have about a two week old mixed breed chick that my sister gave me. This morning I woke to her laying with legs sprawled out and gasping for air, too weak to stand. I've been trying to feed her chick starter with water mixed thinking the others kept her out of food. She's really weak. Also she is pooping clear stringy stuff. Shes the runt of the brood. Can anyone advise me what to do as I'm brand new to raising chickens. Thanks!

Can you post some photos of the poop and how the chick is laying?
How old is she?

Fluids are the most important, so if you can get some water or electrolytes into her that would be good.

I guess the poop is now normal. My mom was holding her When the clear poop came out. It was like egg white drippings of cracked egg. She's laying on her side with legs sprawled as if someone just laid her down rubber chicken like. She's about 2 weeks old. I'll get picks too.

This was her after talking to her.

Does the poop look like it has mucous?
A photo of the legs may be helpful.

Make sure your brooder is not too hot - only have ONE warm spot and let the rest of the brooder be as cool as you can get it. Place the food and water on the cool side of the brooder.

See that there is plenty of ventilation - if she is in a rubber tub make sure it's not too hot and has sufficient air flow.

Try to keep her hydrated. Wetting the chick starter may help as well.

Have their been other chicks in this brooder? It may be wise to treat for Cocci, she looks quite fluffed. It could be that she's too hot, but it could also be Cocci since you report her lethargic and laying about. Treatment is with Corid which can be found at most feed stores.
Corid dosage is 1 1/2 teaspoons Corid powder per gallon or 2 teaspoons of 9.6% Corid liquid per gallon. Give for 5-7 days - make sure this is the ONLY water available during that time period. Mix a fresh batch at least once a day.

Let us know how she is doing.

I have 9 chicks in the brooder. The brooder is an xlarge Rubbermaid with hardwire across the top. The chicks were pecking at her and stomping on her When I found her this morning. Poop has returned to normal having her out of the brooder and giving fluids along with food. We wet down the chick starter and have been feeding her by spoon. I've had her away from brooder bulb most of the time as our temp is 98-105 here right now. I took her out into the sun by herself and stayed by her side for an hour. She is back in the house and seems to be doing a little better. She is still gasping for air but seems to have a bit more energy to her. Legs are straight out to side or behind her When laying down. I've been trying to keep legs folded under her but she flops over or attempts to fly and the legs return to a funky position. Nothing appears broken. Shes skinny looking possibly starved not sure.

How she looks atm with feet positioned under her.
