Good morning. I have a quick question.
I had 2 aprox. 13 week old chicks and a grown hen. The older one never showed any aggression toward the little ones. (They are not her chicks) yesterday the older one attacked the baby chicks. Killing one, pecked right thru her head and body. Hurt the other one, which I have been taking care of and trying to keep wounds clean. She is eating, drinking, and acting ok. She is just not pooping almost at all and plucking her own feathers. Is that normal? I noticed last night that her butt is actually hanging half way. Should I stitch her? Can I help her in any other way? Thank you in advance and God bless

Are you sure the hen attacked them like that? Chickens don't just peck through the head and body...do you have any pics?

It doesn't sound good. Pics would be good of her to see if it would need stitches or something.

I will post a Picture of the one I have left. I didn't take any of the one that past. The older hen has been with us for about 3 weeks. We had baby chicks from day 2. They were inside the coop becaise it was raining. No other animals at home.

I recently had the same problem, I had 2 Buffs (9 weeks) and my 2 older (1 year) hens pecked at one of the Buffs on her head and gave her Wry neck which eventually killed her, and now they are attacking the other on too and recently ripped a part of her comb. I put Polysporin and hid all the signs of blood, because if the older ones see blood they will peck until death or close. This is what I did: I put some Polysporin and mixed it with cornstarch and blue dye. That helped.

Your chick is probably very stressed that is why she is plucking her feathers. As @TheKindaFarmGal said we would need pics to really know if you should stitch her up.

God bless you. I will send pick asap. I am at work so I asked my daughter to take them for me. I will do as you have advised. Thank you

She has a cut across her neck that seems its getting better. I applied Neosporin. And her bottom.
