Help

Is the back enclosed with hardware wire too? ? I'd put it pretty close to your house if it isn't that way if you hear anything during the night you can deal with it. They are so tiny the top needs to be secure and any other place where it can open Raccoons have hands similar to ours and can open things doors etc very easy.

it is close to my house and the back is hard at the top and mesh at the bottom and do we have racoons in the uk

No raccoons thankfully just foxes and birds of prey I believe. stoats? not sure. Look it up google will tell you what preds you have. Didn't know you were in the UK. We have every predator known to man just about. :hmm

No raccoons but foxes! They are Wiley and will do all in their powers to get in. Are you in town or countryside?
At least it’s pretty warm at the moment so they may manage without a heat source

Yes on stoats & weasels. Plus rats, buzzards & sparrow hawks that like small birds.

They are Pekins. Yes, provide heat, a lamp works fine. Once you notice them stop using it you can remove it. They need to be able to dunk their heads in their water, this is to clean their nells and eyes. A butter tub with holes cut in it works good. Holes need to be chest high so as they grow you will need to modify. Bathtime is a fun time for play and learning how to duck. Just be careful. Room temp NOT cold water. And to start use a shallow dish, allow them to come and go in and out as they please. But monitor their bathtime. I wouldn't worry about a big pool or pond just yet. Take it one step at a time. If you use regular UN MEDICATED chick starter you will need to supplement with brewers yeast or something comparable for the lack of niacin in the feed. They look happy! Congratulations and good luck!!!!

i am in a town. god now i am panicing .......... but i couldn't just let them die i am in clacton on sea

No need to panic but we want to let you know what is out there. Until you can get some kind of secure locking mechanism put something heavy on top to hold the top secure.

Of course you couldn't let them die. You'll be fine and so will they. you cared enough to come here to ask questions, you'll be a great duck mama.

Attach a hardware cloth skirting to it on the bottom. It's best if you "bury" the skirting. This keeps predators from digging under and in. Take the kiddie pool setup out. They are too young to have 24hr access to swim time. They can waterlog and drown way too easy.
