A few months back, I called the USPS guy here (the head guy for our region) and he told me that the adult quail can be shipped via Priority, in the "chick shipping boxes". Call your regional person and see if they say the same thing...

Betta If You Read The Postal Regs On Shipping Birds And Eggs Thats A No No... Idk If You Can Get By With It Or Not But Knowing My Luck I'd Get Busted... Or They'd Get An Empty Box And I Would Have Single-handedly Helped To Repopulate The Quail In 3 Or 4 States.... And Then The Dnr For Those 3 Or 4 States Would Have My Pic Up On The Post Office Wall....lol

The regional manager (or whatever the heck he is) said that he had a lot of adults coming through in the chick boxes, going Priority. He said that very few were actually sent via Express. I'm not sure of his exact title, but I do know that this was the main man, every time I want to ship, I'm supposed to call this guy with the destination zipcode, and he's supposed to approve my live shipment. He makes sure that the destination PO accepts live arrivals, and checks for the additional fees (some places charge like $1 per lb or something like that), then he has to call the PO that you're shipping out of to give approval before they will accept your shipment. So, I'm assuming that he has enough authority... If not, well, then he's totally screwing his job up, lol.

THATS WHAT I MEANT-- THEY WONT PAY FOR DEAD BIRDS OR BROKEN EGGS IN ALMOST ANY CASE--- THEY'LL COME UP WITH A REASON TO DENY THE CLAIM. THEY STILL CHARGE YOU FRO OVERNIGHT ON LIVES, BUT IF YOU READ THE FINE PRINT AS SHELLEY SAID THEY ACTUALLY HAVE 3 DAYS BEFORE ITS CONSIDERED LATE--WTH?

Yes Shelly. The PO will sell you insurance on anything. That doesn't mean that they will, or are even obligated to pay a claim.
No common carrier will insure live delivery of any animal, eggs, or the like.
You may have had good luck with delivery, and damage claims, but there are so many variables with shipping (Very perishable) items.

You may get away with shipping adult birds in chick boxes, but when anyone ships anything mislabeled, then any common carrier can not only refuse paying any claim for damages, but can also refuse to refund any shipping cost. Look at the fine print.
You may get good results doing this, but don't bother making a claim for damage.

Do a CPU/Will Call, refuse the sale, or ship the birds by the book, and make sure you charge proper S&H, or you will loose money. I recommend that you not take on a road trip, unless you make big $$, and also for safety reasons. That's just me.

That's really a mute point though. The previous posts mention that the USPS does not guarantee the contents anyways.

just a thought here, but depending on where you live and where the other person lives you might be able to just post to craig's list and find a driver....someone going that direction for vacation/airport, shopping, visit family, specialist doctor type appt or maybe a trucker who does cross country type routes that wouldn't mind a little cash in his/her pocket. i'd post in your location and the buyer's to see if you get any bites.
