It was spitting snow while we were running around today. It's 30* here. Trout season opened up at a local state park on the 1st so we drove out there today to see what was going on. There were people galore up to their chest in the river fishing away in this cold. Crazy people

Sonja the coturnix quail are delicious and I had dh cull them for me. You skin them so they are very easy compared to chickens. Are you hatching some?

I'm trying to start out small then work my way up to chickens. I can kill fish with no problem but warm blooded animals....well, thats another story, unless they are human. I had to shoot a deer one time at work and I felt bad for a week. I thought I was going to He11 for killing one of God's little fuzzy creatures. I know that's why they are here but it doesnt make it any easier for me. I do not have issues with other people killing animals as long as they make use of the animal instead of leaving it rot and just take the horns

I didn't think I could do it but I had a bunch of roos last spring and no one would take them. It got to the point that they were so being so mean to the hens and I was angry so I wanted to do it, lol Hubby did the 1st one and I didn't like the way he did it so I did the rest. I don't like doing it by any means but I can do it if it needs to be done now but I put it off until the last minute possible.

for outside brooders, lol Mine are in a cage in the coop with a heat lamp so they can get used to the rest of the birds but not get picked on. Hopefully they will be integrated by the time they feather out. I have no patience for keeping them seperated for too long. Little ones have hiding places in my coop so it all works out.

It was almost 60 here today

I didn't see the sun but that's OK if it wants to be warm. There is still alot of ice yet to melt out there though.

For those of you STILL dealing with snow-I feel sorry for you.
Seems like it's been a LONG winter for us, so I can just imagine how you all feel.

I think our latest blizzard was the 2nd week in April 1995 so 6 more weeks to worry about it here

I hope so! We can't plant outside until late may, early june.
